Developer Rare is kicking off the ninth season for Sea of Thieves today. While there is a host of new content in the game, the focus of season 9 is to bring more quality of life features to Sea of Thieves. The new season also brings a new Plunder Pass with 100 levels of progression.
With Sea of Thieves season 9, Chests of Fortune have now begun to appear across the game’s world. A chest can be found in a conquered Fort of Fortune, and crews that manage to deliver these chests will be able to earn cosmetics from the Fates of Fortune set. The Reaper’s Bones also have their own Fates of Fortune-themed cosmetics for crews that bring in Reaper’s Chests and complete Reaper’s Bounties.
Pirate Legends can now also embark on a new voyage, dubbed Skull of Destiny, which involves instigating a Fort of the Damned event without having to visit the afterlife. As part of the new season, crews can now also find Captain’s Logbooks in their ship that feature accounts of their most recent exploits.
Sea of Thieves is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is also available as part of PC and Xbox Game Pass.
