Would be pirates had another chance to join the Sea of Thieves Beta over the weekend, and between that and the previous beta it’s clear that Rare has hit on a winning formula, even for streamers. And according to Rare Executive Producer Joe Neate, it seems that streamers are working for Rare too.
“We’ve seen from our beta that people watching other people play has driven them to come into the game.” Said Neate to Eurogamer, speaking to how the streams of the game have driven preorders for the Pirate title. “You start going, oh, what can I do in that game? You see a real conversion of people who want to then come in and try stuff.”
Rare’s upcoming shared world epic, Sea of Thieves managed to unseat titans like DOTA 2 and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Twitch during the short beta runs, and that alone is super impressive. Microsoft and Rare have a lot of faith in the game, seeing as they’re launching their initiative to launch first party Xbox titles on their Game Pass subscription day and date with the retail release.
