Sega Considering Bringing Shenmue 1 and 2 To Nintendo Switch

Bringing the classic Dreamcast titles to Nintendo Switch is "definitely" something Sega is considering.

With Shenmue 3 launching next year, the excitement surrounding the classic RPG series is growing with every passing day, which is something that Sega smartly capitalized on when they released the Shenmue 1 and 2 collection roughly a couple months ago. The collection launched for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but as it turns out, Sega is also considering bringing it over to the Nintendo Switch.

While speaking with 4Gamer (via Nintendo Everything) Sega’s localization director Hiroji Noguchi mentioned that the reception among fans to the recent re-release of the Dreamcast classics duo has been very good, and that being able to play the game on the go on Nintendo’s hybrid platform is an attractive prospect.

“The fans have really shown their love for Shenmue – and for that, I really am grateful,” Noguchi said. “Personally, I think it’d be great if you could play Shenmue on the Switch anywhere…”

Meanwhile, Sega’s localization producer Eigo Kasahara also chimed in, saying that bringing Shenmue 1 and 2 to the Switch is “definitely” something they’re considering. “Whether or not we can do something like that in reality, we’re taking the fans’ opinions into consideration,” he said. “Following up on that might take some time, but it’s definitely something I want to consider.”

Make it happen, Sega. It’s a perfect fit. When I reviewed the Shenmue 1 and 2 collection, I mentioned that it was a great way to revisit these old classics, but being able to play them on the Switch might just be even better.
