The Game Awards 2021 was a packed event, to say the very least, but without a doubt, one of the highlights of the show was Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. Microsoft and Ninja Theory brought their upcoming action-adventure sequel to the stage with what was dubbed a gameplay reveal trailer, which showed an extended sequence from the game. Since its reveal, there have been some who have wondered whether what was shown was actually gameplay footage from the game itself, and Ninja Theory has once again re-iterated that it definitely was.
Taking recently to Twitter, Ninja Theory audio director David García stated, “Everything in this demo is in-engine, real time, no tricks. This is real. As such not everything is perfect (yet).”
When asked further if the footage from the trailer was in-engine footage or actual gameplay footage from the game, García explained that the trailer footage was a section from the game itself, being played by one of the developers at Ninja Theory.
So there you have it- Hellblade 2’s gameplay reveal trailer from The Game Awards showed actual gameplay. The fact that there were somehow were unwilling to believe that on account of how good the game looked is obviously a pretty good problem to have for Ninja Theory.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC, but doesn’t yet have a release date. You can read our technical analysis of its TGA 2021 trailer through here.
