Serious Sam 4 is Not Open World, First Screenshots and Details Released

Sam's friends will also be able to join in on fights.

Croteam’s Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass was probably going to be at Devolver Digital’s yearly bizarre E3 presser. However, the Steam page for the arcade FPS has been updated and offers the first details and screenshots. No new gameplay trailer has been released though.

Along with promising the same circle-strafing, backpedaling action that the series has become known for, Serious Sam 4 will be doing things on a much larger scale. Environments will have secrets, ambushes and optional objectives but the overall experience is still linear. As Croteam notes on Steam, this is “NOT an open-world game.”

To that end, there will be large environments to travel through and players will have a motorcycle to help them (and can even run over enemies). Perhaps the biggest new addition is the fact that Sam’s companions like Rodriguez, Jones, Hellfire and more will actually partake in the fighting instead of appearing in cutscenes. This seems to suggest support for co-op with four players though hasn’t been explicitly confirmed.

Check out the first screenshots below and let us know what you think. Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass will be coming to Xbox One and PS4 along with PC.
