The road to Shenmue 3 sure was something. A sequel to a series that was an infamous flop was given a chance due to crowdfunding, but then became a firestorm of controversy with poor messaging and handling of its PC version. But it finally did come out, and…well, it was probably exactly what you expected, for better or for worse (and we’re already talking about Shenmue 4, apparently). The game is getting updates and the timeline for backers got revised as well.
The latest update, 1.03, is available now for both platforms. No patch notes were released and the update was just around 500MB, so most likely it was to prep for post-launch content we know is coming. Backers of the original Kickstarter also got an update on the timeline for when they’ll get their goodies with them spread out from this month until March. The physical version of the PC version of the game also got a delay until February. You can see the full timeline through here.
Shenmue 3 is available for PlayStation 4 and PC. You can read our take on the long awaited sequel through here.
