SimCity Sells 1.1 Million Units – 44 Percent of Sales from Origin

Despite various issues, Maxis's latest city management simulator has had a great launch.

Love it or hate it – and most people are certainly having no problems with the latter – Maxis’s recent city management simulator SimCity has sold 1.1 million copies since release.

Of course, that two week period was full of people demanding refunds, EA initially refusing the same, server troubles, DRM complaints, crazy codes and of course, recent redemption offer from Maxis to make up for the game’s woes.

EA’s Peter Moore recently stated that, “SimCity had a great weekend with sales strong across both North America and Europe, adding to overwhelming demand at launch that has us tracking well beyond expectations for the game.

”SimCity is one of the storied brands in gaming, and Maxis delivered a game re-envisioned and engineered for the online age.”

Roughly 54 percent of the game’s sales came via digital download, of which 44 percent were through Electronic Arts’ online platform Origin. And yet, this happened just recently. So yeah, weird day at EA.
