While DICE’s Battlefield 2042 disappointed, publisher Electronic Arts’ portfolio for the year is still looking very strong. Along with the Dead Space remake that’s planned for late 2022, the company is also reviving the Skate franchise for its fourth iteration (titled simply “skate.“). And it’s coming “soon” as per CEO Andrew Wilson.
Fielding a question about user-generated content in its Q3 FY2021 earnings call (transcription by Seeking Alpha), Wilson spoke about how the company has delivered “new and interesting and fun ways to engage with content.” This includes “the ability to create your own content and put it into that ecosystem,” which has been “at the very center of The Sims for a long time” along with FIFA Ultimate Team and Madden Ultimate Team. He also described it as the “very center of the design of skate., which we’ll be launching soon.”
Of course, both the publisher and developer Full Circle have been fairly tight-lipped about the game in general. It’s been hinted to feature multiplayer, which would fit in well with user-generated content (especially if players can share and play their creations with others online). An open world and similarities to Skate 2 have also been noted, though an EA spokesperson said in July 2021 that it’s “too soon” to confirm anything.
Perhaps we’ll learn more in the coming months especially at EA Play Live. skate. is currently confirmed to be releasing for PC, though console releases can also be expected.
