Sledgehammer Games Hiring for Next Call of Duty, Focus on Current Generation of Consoles

Sigh.

Oh yippee. So Sledgehammer Games, the studio that was formed to foresee the development of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series along with the remnants of Infinity Ward, recently posted a listing on Gamasutra for a senior environment artist. They’re “actively recruiting top talent for our Call of Duty development team”.

An interesting detail can be seen in the requirements, where one of the job responsibilities includes, “Will insure that the level works on all relevant platforms, Xbox 360, PS3”. With all the hype surrounding the next generation, and how we’ll see the next Xbox and PS3 consoles in 2013, it’d be rather entertaining to see this release scenario play out.

Now, Infinity Ward has already denied the existence of Modern Warfare 4, despite evidence to the contrary. And we know that Sledgehammer isn’t doing anything else next year, since Treyarch and Infinity Ward usually ping-ponging back and forth for COD releases and the former having already shipped Black Ops 2 (along with any remaining semblance of shame for it’s quality).

Stay tuned for more details, though honestly, the fact that we’re getting a new COD next year is no surprise.
