While Sonic X Shadow Generations received several new details as of late (including a new story trailer), Sonic Team producer Shun Nakamura also revealed the length of the new campaign starring Shadow the Hedgehog. Speaking to Famitsu (translation via ResetEra), he said that it’s “about the same” as Sonic Generations.
“It depends on how you play,” says Nakamura, “But I think the play volume of Shadow Generations is about the same as Sonic Generations or maybe a little less. If you play both, you can enjoy it for a long time. In the past, only Sonic Generations was released, so it’s a great deal.”
HowLongToBeat lists Sonic Generations as 5.5 hours long for the story and 16 hours for completionists on average. If Shadow’s campaign offers as much content, completionists can expect over 30 hours of gameplay. It’s confirmed to be standalone and doesn’t require playing the original game, but it’s actually a separate title called Shadow Generations and won’t be sold separately (hence the title).
Sonic X Shadow Generations launches on October 25th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Digital Deluxe Edition owners can look forward to the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack. It launches on December 12th and features a level based on the upcoming film. Best of all, Keanu Reeves voices Shadow. Head here to see it in action.
