The most critical blows to Microsoft and Xbox in Japan come not from the fact that practically no local games come to the system – Xbox has never been the place to go to for high quality Japanese games anyway – but that in Japan, it does not even get the western games that may otherwise make it worth a purchase. Sony often sews up deals of exclusivity for vaunted western games in the region, ensuring they release only on the PS4.
Take Destiny, for instance- the original game was published by Sony in Japan, and so released only on PS3 and PS4. This meant that for Japanese gamers, Destiny was a PlayStation exclusive. And that will be happening with Destiny 2 again- Activision and Sony have confirmed that Sony will be publishing the game locally on PS4 in Japan, where it will launch on September 8, much like the rest of the world.
Now, the press release never explicitly specifies exclusivity- but given that so far the PS4 version is the only version confirmed, and precedence regarding this brand in the region, it is not a stretch to conclude that the game is only coming to PS4 in Japan after all. Everywhere else, it will also be available on PC and Xbox One.
