Sony sells 3.9 million PS3s between November to December; 6.5 million total Playstation consoles sold

Sony has just mentioned that they have sold a whopping 3.9 million PS3s between November to December. They are on target to reach their 15 million PS3 sales projection for this fiscal year. It is indeed a splendid performance, and the price drop to $250 would have no doubt helped them as well.

The fiscal year for Sony ends on March 31st.

The PSP shifted 1.6 million units and no doubt majority of sales came from Japan, where it was a big seller this year. They sold 500k PS2s during the same period.

Sony released a statement which said: “SCE will continue to deploy various measures to further expand the PlayStation business with strong support from users as well as 3rd party developers and publishers, and will vigorously enhance the world of computer entertainment system that is possible only on the PlayStation platforms.”

Earlier we reported that SCE UK was planning a huge advertising company for PS Vita’s launch, and it’s the biggest in the brand’s 17 year history.
