One of the most important coupes of this generation (already having come this early) was Sony’s announcement that the fifth installment in Capcom’s flagship franchise, Street Fighter V, will be exclusive on consoles to the PlayStation 4 (though there will be a PC version as well). This is a big deal, because to a lot of people, Street Fighter is fighting games.
Sony sounded pretty enthusiastic when they made the announcement at the PlayStation Experience keynote. A lot of it probably had to do with the business consideration of getting a game as major as Street Fighter V exclusive, but, as Sony’s Adam Boyes explains, it is also because Street Fighter as a franchise means a whole lot to Sony, and especially to Sony’s Adam Boyes.
He explained that before joining Sony Computer Entertainment America as the Vice President of Publisher and Developer Relations, he explained that he was the Director of Production at Capcom USA and got the chance to work on repainting the sprites for Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix- so in a sense, this represents a sort of homecoming for him.
Street Fighter V is due to launch next year. Stay tuned.
