Star Citizen Crosses $141 Million in Funding, 2017 Updates Teased

Update 2.6.1 currently in the works.

Cloud Imperium Games’ Star Citizen has achieved another milestone with its funding with $141 million contributed by backers thus far.

A statement from studio founder Chris Roberts also discussed what plans were in store for Star Citizen this year, including refinement with Amazon’s Lumberyard engine (which the team switched to from Crytek’s CryEngine). There’s been plenty of positive buzz around Alpha 2.6’s release and plans for update 2.6.1 are currently in place.

Roberts closed his statement with, “2016 was a noteworthy year in Star Citizen’s development. 2017 with Squadron 42 and Alpha 3.0 is looking to be even better.”

Squadron 42, a single-player title set in the Star Citizen universe and completely separate from the online modes, will have its first episode releasing this year and promises 70 missions to run through (along with optional co-op).
