Star Wars Battlefront 3 Not Happening Anytime Soon, Says Developer

The success and growing fanbase of Battlefront 2 means a sequel is a ways off.

The legacy of Star Wars Battlefront 2 is going to be a strange one. The outcry to the monetization elements in the game’s multiplayer reached the halls of lawmakers. What that will end up meaning is anyone’s guess at this point, but it’s probably not the legacy EA and DICE had in mind when they launched the shooter. Regardless, the game found success, and a playerbase that continues to grow. Because of that, don’t expect a sequel anytime soon.

In talking with PCGamesN, Design Director Dennis Brännvall said that due to the change in the industry, the company won’t be doing the usual schedule with a sequel, feeling the “hunger” for a sequel isn’t the same as it once was, and that base improvements to the current game is something most players prefer now.

“We were so used to the chain of sequels, where we do a sequel then we do a season pass for a year then move onto the next game. I think the industry has changed on that… before it was very transactional and we made the game and we signed up for 4 DLCs and then that’s it. So then you focus on getting value to players out of what they paid for and if there was a system that wasn’t working then you put a pin in that and say we will fix it in the sequel,” Brännvall said, “this time around we’re not doing it that way.”

Star Wars Battlefront 2, despite all the longstanding controversy it caused, is still getting continuous updates. And it looks to be the game is here to stay, so if you want your Star Wars shooter fix, you know where the party will be for a good while.
