While the launch of Star Wars: Battlefront was pretty successful and the game appears to be on track to hit earnings numbers Electronic Arts set forth, at least one industry analyst believes it still doesn’t stand even the slightest chance of beating the sales numbers of the also recently released Call of Duty Black Ops 3. Michael Pachter talked about the sales numbers on his most recent podcast, the Pachter Factor.
“Star Wars Battlefront, (next-gen only) is gonna be outsold by Call of Duty, according to NPD, in the month of November.” Pachter said in the podcast. He also said that it doesn’t appear as though the sales numbers are going to be that close and could actually be as much as 50 percent difference. Pachter doesn’t believe the issue is that Star Wars: Battlefront is that much worse of a game. The industry analyst says that the popularity of the Call of Duty franchise is such that the name alone sells games.
At the same time, Star Wars games have been dead and gone for a while now. Battlefront is likely a good way to jump start the series but for now, there isn’t enough out there to get people really excited for the franchise. “People aren’t playing Star Wars. They might be playing the beta, but there’s no real compelling reason to rush out and buy it the first instant. All your Call of Duty friends aren’t buying Star Wars and switching over,” Pachter said. We’ll just to wait and see if his projections for Star Wars: Battlefront and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
