Gfk’s weekly physical sales data for the United Kingdom isn’t in yet, but there have been some notable shifts. According to Games Industry’s Christopher Dring on Twitter, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is now in the top spot, despite sales dropping by 55 percent.
The side-scrolling platformer debuted on the same day as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 but in second place. As for Insomniac Games’ blockbuster sequel, it dropped to second place with sales down by 69 percent. New titles debuting for the week include Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 in fourth. Though their long-term chart rankings remain to be seen, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have been incredibly successful. The former debuted in Japan with over 638,000 units sold in its first week and became the fastest-selling Mario title ever in Europe. Meanwhile, the latter sold over 2.5 million copies in 24 hours and is PlayStation’s fastest-selling first-party title.
