After months and years of rumors, several of these titles could finally be announced at one of next month's big showcases.

While E3 isn’t happening this year, June is set to have all kinds of other events, from the Summer Game Fest on June 9th to the PC Gaming Show and Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12th. (This doesn’t include events from companies like Sony). Let’s take a look at 15 rumored titles that could be revealed in the coming weeks.

The Last of Us Remake Gameplay

The Last of Us is one of the greatest games ever made – even if a remake doesn’t make sense, one can’t deny the appeal of vastly improved visuals, gameplay improvements and even more content. There have been rumblings for some time about the remake but more recently, insider Tom Henderson stated it would release in the latter half of 2022. VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb corroborated the same with sources claiming it would launch in Holiday 2022. Sony hasn’t announced a showcase for June, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get a bombshell announcement and gameplay at the Summer Game Fest.

A new leak has revealed several new details on the upcoming Assassin's Creed VR game, while footage of its main menu and mission selection screen have also leaked.

A recent report claimed that Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed VR title, which was confirmed to be in development back in 2020, will be called Assassin’s Creed Nexus. Featuring several known protagonists from throughout the series and a number of different missions to play through, the game, according to the report, is allegedly ready to launch in the coming 12 months.

Now, new potential details on the game seem to have emerged on Reddit, where a user claiming to have gotten their hands on the game has now only shared a clip showing the game’s main menu screen and a mission selection screen, but also shared some gameplay details.

Some of the information lines up with the aforementioned report. Combat in the game will apparently be timing-based, requiring you to pick your moments to strike at enemies when they’ve lowered their cover. Meanwhile, according to the leaker, weapons will include swords, throwing knives, crossbows, smoke bombs, and of course, the Hidden Blade.

Meanwhile, the user also describes movement in the game, saying that while jumping is done by with the A button, climbing is done by manually vaulting, grabbing ledges, and pulling yourself up using the motion controllers. Interestingly, Ubisoft has apparently also included options to reduce motion success.

The user also talks about the game’s structure, which, as you may have expected for a VR title, won’t be open world unlike most Assassin’s Creed games. Instead, it seems it will adopt a linear mission-based structure. As per the leak, mission areas are quite large, with plenty of scope for backtracking as well.

In-game cutscenes allegedly provide briefings for the mission at hand, but the user claims the game doesn’t have any side missions or optional objectives. Finally, the leaker also claims that though there are multiple playable characters, which is in line with previously leaked information, players cannot switch between them freely, while the only differences the game exhibits across different characters being how your hands look and the way people address you.

These are all, of course, unconfirmed details right now, so until we hear something official from Ubisoft, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt. That said, if Assassin’s Creed Nexus is indeed launching as soon as these leaks claim, then it shouldn’t be long before it gets announced. Either way, we’ll keep an eye out for more updates, so stay tuned.

Reports of private equity firms like Blackstone Inc. and KKR & Co. having "preliminary takeover interest" in Ubisoft are also circulating.

Despite successes like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and a number of upcoming releases, Ubisoft has faced harassment allegations, reports of troubled development on numerous projects and much more. With that in mind, the company has reportedly attracted interest from firms like Blackstone Inc. and KKR & Co. as per Bloomberg.

The two firms, which are the biggest in private equity worldwide, have reportedly been “studying the French business” and have “preliminary takeover interest.” While Ubisoft hasn’t had “any serious negotiations with potential acquirers,” it has allegedly worked with consultancy firms in the past few years to audit the business as per Kotaku’s sources. This is apparently a sign that the company is “trying to tidy up its books for a potential sale.”

The highlight of Kotaku’s report, however, is concerning development on the newest titles in the Far Cry, Ghost Recon and Assassin’s Creed franchises. According to three sources familiar with the developer, they’re apparently “further out” than Ubisoft has previously planned. As such, the company has some 20 titles that it’s looking to announce and/or discuss in the coming months as per insider Tom Henderson, and we’ve already seen announcements for games like Project Q.

A Ubisoft spokesperson told Kotaku that it didn’t “comment on rumors or speculation” and that it has “unmatched creative and production capacities, with more than 20,000 talented people collaborating across our global studios on game development.” “Thanks to them and to our long-term approach and appetite for taking creative risks, we have built some of the industry’s strongest proprietary brands and have many promising new brands and projects on the horizon. We also have one the industry’s deepest and most diversified portfolios, cutting-edge services and technologies, and a large and growing community of engaged players.

“As a result, we’re ideally positioned to capitalize on the rapid industry growth and platform opportunities that are emerging right now.”

Stay tuned for any potential developments in the coming months though, especially with major players like Activision-Blizzard, Bethesda Softworks and Bungie having been acquired over the past year.

A new leak details the VR-exclusive title's combat, stealth, missions, and more. The game is allegedly due out within 12 months.

Ubisoft announced in 2020 that it was working on new VR games in the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell franchises for Meta (then known as Oculus) devices, but there have been no more details on the projects since then. A new leak, however, has potentially revealed quite a bit about the Assassin’s Creed game, which is allegedly called Assassin’s Creed Nexus.

In a report published on Exputer, serial Ubisoft leaker Tom Henderson states that Assassin’s Creed Nexus will bring back several protagonists from throughout the series, including the likes of Assassin’s Creed 2’s Ezio, Assassin’s Creed 3’s Connor and Haytham, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Kassandra, with each being playable in different levels. Apparently, the game will feature several historical settings (which explains all the different protagonists), similar to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Infinity.

The game will reportedly have a total of 16 missions, which will also include a tutorial, while missions will involve combat, stealth, pickpocketing, climbing, and more. The game will offer the option to play either with point and teleport movement or movement with analog sticks, or a combination of both. If you’re using the former, stealth will adapt altered mechanics- the closer you are to an enemy when you’re teleporting, the more noise you make.

According to Henderson’s report, holding down a button and flicking your wrist will bring out your hidden blade, while using it and other weapons will work with motion controls, as you’d expect. The game also apparently features a full lockpicking minigame, and players will have several opportunities to lockpick past chests and doors for rewards during missions.

Interestingly, Assassin’s Creed Nexus will also allegedly have a unique take on the series’ iconic Leap of Faith mechanic, which will require players to stand in a T pose to fall off high points within the game.

Henderson claims the game is expected to launch within the next 12 months.

As per leaks, Assassin’s Creed Nexus isn’t the only new game the series is getting in the near future. Reportedly, a smaller-scale stealth-focused instalment called Assassin’s Creed Rift is also expected to launch by the first half of 2023.
