In addition to improved visuals, there will also be “new features” that will help in progression. Expect further details in the coming months. Rumored back in February, Monolith Soft is developing the remaster while Bandai Namco – who owns the IP – is the co-developer.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean first launched in 2003 and has players guiding Kalas and friends. Combat relies on cards called Magnus which use the essence of items. Though acclaimed, it received criticism for its story and voice acting. Baten Kaitos Origins is a prequel and fared better in the localization, though it was never released in Europe.

A recent leak claimed that Bandai Namco and Monolith Soft were working on a remaster of Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, but as it turns out, they might be doing more than that. Key art for a combined remaster of both Baten Kaitos games – including 2006’s Baten Kaitos Origins – has leaked online and been shared on Reddit, with the artwork referring to the release as Baten Kaitos 1 and 2 HD Remaster.

And that’s not all. On top of the leaked artwork, veteran artist Nakaba Higurashi – who was the lead character designer on both Baten Kaitos games – recently took to Twitter with a tweet comprised of a series of emojis, possibly hinting at an upcoming announcement.

Exputer has published a report citing anonymous sources and claiming to have seen graphical evidence, and states that a remake of the 2004 GameCube RPG Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean is in development at Monolith Soft, with Bandai Namco co-developing the project. Interestingly, while the Baten Kaitos IP is owned by Bandai Namco, Monolith Soft’s parent company Nintendo is allegedly overseeing the project.

The report states it’s unknown what the scope of the project is, and whether or not it’s a full-fledged remake or more of an enhanced remaster. It is supposedly targeting a Summer 2023 launch though, and is likely to be revealed at E3 this year.

Interestingly, multiple job listings over the last year have indicated that Bandai Namco is working on a game commissioned by Nintendo, and that it will be a remake/remaster of a 3D action title. Previous reports had claimed that the project in question was Kid Icarus: Uprising, but it’s possible that those job ads were in reference to Baten Kaitos.

Either way, for now, it’s best to take all this with a grain of salt, as is the case with most leaks- especially where Nintendo is involved. We’ll keep an eye out for more updates though, so stay tuned.
