Extra content isn't a bad thing but these games crossed the line with their DLC.

Downloadable content in its current form has been around since 2005 with Microsoft pushing for the same through its Xbox Live Marketplace. It was viewed as the start of a horrible trend, and the Horse Armor for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion didn’t help. Over time, DLC would become more substantial and present value but that doesn’t mean that every piece of paid post-launch content was a good deal. Let’s take a look at 15 DLCs in games that induced rage, in some way or another.

Destiny – The Dark Below

Four story missions, each taking place in the base game’s levels (except backwards). Two strikes, one being exclusive to PlayStation players for a year. A short and buggy raid that was best completed by pulling the LAN cable from one’s router. Destiny was quite the meme when it first launched and there was no bigger meme than The Dark Below, which cost a whopping $20 standalone. Have fun completing the content in a week or two and then waiting five months for more!

Take on the eponymous Hellfire Knight and show him who's boss.

Bandai Namco’s Code Vein recently received its first DLC pack in Hellfire Knight. It isn’t terribly substantial but does introduce one new difficult boss and several challenges to complete. You’ll encounter the Blazing Heretic and Abyssal Doppelganger bosses beforehand but the titular Hellfire Knight is the main attraction.

Make sure to study his patterns beforehand. Draw out his initial claw strikes and dodge to get behind him. Proceed to slash 2 to 3 times. He’ll then whip his tail around so prepare to dodge. At times, the Knight will summon fire to erupt from the ground. Make sure to dodge left or right to avoid it.

Once half his health is gone, the Knight will create a huge explosion of flame and dive at you. There will be some new attacks to watch out for, like his drawing two flaming swords for a combo. Dodge to get behind him as usual. He’ll also quickly swipe with one sword in front of him but you can dodge through this as well. The usual attacks will repeat and there are moments where the Knight will stumble. Use this opportunity to wail on him with your special attacks.

Be patient, react accordingly to his moves and you should have him beat. Good job! Now do it without taking any damage (as seen below).

Yesterday it was discovered that Bandai Namco’s Code Vein would be receiving its first major DLC pack today with Hellfire Knight. The publisher has followed up by releasing the DLC along with its official trailer. Check it out below to see what’s new.

The DLC content includes new enemies and a new boss (which looks to be the titular Hellfire Knight). Players can also use new weapons, Blood Veils and Blood Codes, benefiting from new abilities like a fiery tornado. Alternate outfits can also be unlocked for your partners by exploring new locations in the Depths.

The player character also gets some new costumes including swanky uniforms available in blue and white. The Hellfire Knight DLC is included in the Season Pass, which retails for $24.99, but can also be purchased standalone. More weapons, Blood Codes and bosses will be added in subsequent DLC packs so stay tuned for more details.
