The puzzle title will be shutting down this Autumn. Its premium currency, diamonds, are unavailable to purchase from today onwards.

After launching in June 2019 for mobiles, Nintendo’s Dr. Mario World will be ending its service on November 1st, 6 AM UTC. The recent notice revealed that diamonds, the game’s premium currency, would be unavailable to purchase from today onwards. Once the service has ended, players will receive a notification for the same in-game.

One can still look back on their playtime with Dr. Mario World Memories, a website that will go live after the service ends. Nintendo didn’t provide a reason for the game’s service ending but it may have to do with its overall revenue. Despite having two million downloads within 72 hours of launch, it only generated $100,000 in revenue.

Considering how successful the company’s other ventures have been – like Mario Kart Tour which had 20 million downloads and $1 million in revenue on its first day alone – the title’s end of service is understandable. What’s next for Nintendo’s mobile ventures? Stay tuned for any news and details in the coming months.

Fire Emblem leads the pack by a large margin.

Nintendo was slow to get into the mobile scene. They did so with tippy toes, so to speak, with the likes of Super Mario Run in the beginning. They’ve since released several titles in their biggest franchises for mobile devices, adapting them more to the usual mobile tactics. And as it turns out, it’s paid off for them, even if at a relatively slow pace, as combined revenue from their games have now passed $1 billion in lifetime player spending, according to Sensor Tower.

Interestingly, the number one game is Fire Emblem Heroes. While that franchise has grown significantly over the years, it’s still not at the level of a Mario or Zelda on mainline consoles. Heroes has struck a cord though, as a whooping 61% of Nintendo’s total mobile revenue comes from that game alone. Maybe more interesting is how the Mario games are all three battling at the bottom. Even Mario Kart Tour is behind Dragalia Lost and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, though it’s worth noting that Mario Kart Tour hasn’t been out for too long. This list does not include Pokemon titles, which are officially published by The Pokemon Company.

Nintendo hasn’t announced any other mobile efforts as of now, but the company seems to be getting pretty cozy with the market space. It’s inevitable that more IPs will make their way to your iOS and Android devices soon.

A strong amount of downloads, but the money is on the low side.

Dr. Mario is back to rid the world of viruses in the mobile title, Dr. Mario World. The game is out now on all compatible mobile devices, and now we get an idea of how many people are into the match 3 take on the series. It did see quite the amount of downloads, but it seems people aren’t quite as eager to spend money on the Doctor’s visit.

Provided by Sensor Tower, we have a full chart of all the non-Pokemon mobile titles that Nintendo has released so far, and as far as downloads, Dr. Mario World put in some work with 2 million downloads. While this puts it second to last, it’s still a pretty impressive number, especially considering the Dr. Mario games have been absent for a long time.

Less great though is that it has generated just $100,000 in revenue, making it the lowest grossing 72 hour launch of all the titles being considered here. It even got passed by Dragalia Lost, despite that game being a new IP and getting less than a fourth of the total downloads.

Whether or not business will pick up for Dr. Mario World remains to be seen, especially since the mobile market is a fast-paced affair. For now, the game is available on all compatible iOS and Android devices.

The return of the popular puzzle franchise comes a little early for Apple players.

We reported earlier that the beloved Dr. Mario puzzle series was making a return in the form of Dr. Mario World, a mobile take on the franchise. Well, iOS users got a big surprise today as the game went live one day early for Apple users.

The game was originally set to come out July 10th for both iOS and Android platforms, but seemingly with no official announcement or acknowledgement the game went live on iOS today, and you can play the whole thing, including multiplayer. If you’re a bit bummed being on Android, don’t worry, the launch is still on schedule for tomorrow on Android devices.

Dr. Mario World has some of the spirit of the original series, but is closer to a match three in the vein of Candy Crush as opposed to the Tetris inspiration the older games had, which you can get a clearer breakdown of here. It’s a free to play mobile title available now to all iOS compatible devices, and will go live tomorrow for Android devices.

The doctor is in- with friends.

Nintendo is getting more and more aggressive with its mobile output, with multiple Pokemon games coming for mobile devices soon, and arguably their biggest franchise soon to get an entry as well. Before all that, though, the doctor will be in with Dr. Mario World, the mobile-based return of the puzzle series. It was announced not too long ago, and today we get a look at the game’s multiplayer.

In a trailer released via Nintendo, we get to see what it’ll be like to play Dr. Mario World with friends or strangers. You can connect to either Facebook or Line to find friends to challenge in a multiplayer bout, or you can go against strangers. The game plays very similarly to past titles, with a match ending when one player’s board is filled with viruses.

Dr. Mario World will release for both iOS and Android on July 10th. Pre-registration is up now for those who want to get the game as soon as it’s live for both platforms.

The Doctor is in for this mobile spin off.

Well, that was pretty unexpected. While a Dr. Mario mobile game had been announced, no one was expecting it to come so soon. But today, Nintendo announced that the game, Dr. Mario World, is coming in July.

You can see the combined announcement trailer and gameplay breakdown below. It’s very much in the vein of the Dr. Mario games we’ve come to know, but adapted to mobile sensibilities with timers, stamina, and gameplay walls that require items to continue, and purchases for in-game material, which can be gained by a mixture of playing the game and real world purchases.

It will launch with 5 worlds, with more to be added later. It also includes multiple Mario characters that will be donning the doctor suit that you can purchase with Diamonds, one of the game’s several currencies. That includes Dr. Peach, Dr. Yoshi, Dr. Bowser, and more. Check it out below.

Dr. Mario World is the latest in Nintendo’s continued branching out into the mobile space, and it will release on both iOS and Android platforms on July 10th as a free to play title. Pre-registration is available now to those that want to be notified the minute the game is up for download.
