The acclaimed open-world action RPG also ranked as the best-selling title on Xbox and third best-selling on PlayStation for March.

Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 has emerged as the top-selling premium game in the United States for March 2024, per Circana analyst and executive director Matt Piscatella. It’s the third best-selling game of the year to date, with dollar sales surpassing the combined lifetime figures for Dragon’s Dogma and its expansion, Dark Arisen.

While it was the sixth most-played title on Steam last month in the US, it ranked first in dollar sales for Xbox platforms (followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in second) and third for PlayStation platforms (with Rise of the Ronin coming in fourth). In terms of sales figures, Capcom announced it had sold over 2.5 million units within the first 12 days.

Stay tuned for updated sales numbers in the coming months. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Check out our review – we awarded it a 10 out of 10 due to its standout combat, immersive sandbox and world design.

While far from a confirmation for a sequel, Capcom is celebrating the 10th anniversary for Dragon's Dogma with a new website.

Capcom has launched a new website celebrating the 10th anniversary for its open world RPG Dragon’s Dogma. While the presence of this website is far from evidence of a new Dragon’s Dogma game, the fact that Capcom is celebrating the game could potentially mean that there is something in the works.

Along with a video celebrating the game’s 10th anniversary, the Dragon’s Dogma website also has a message from the original game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno.

“Dragon’s Dogma, first released in 2012, is celebrating its 10th anniversary!” says the message. “Thank you, Arisen, for taking up arms and braving through the impossible challenges laid ahead of you. We are forever grateful for your support throughout the years and hope you will join us in this momentous celebration of Dragon’s Dogma!”

The last we heard about Dragon’s Dogma were rumblings that Itsuno is working on a sequel to the game. Capcom is yet to make an official announcement for Dragon’s Dogma 2, however, but over the last 5 years, the company has been diligent in making Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen available on just about every platform available.

Hideaki Itsuno’s last major release was Devil May Cry 5, and rumours, including the Capcom leaks from 2020, indicate that his next project is likely Dragon’s Dogma 2, presumably developed using the RE Engine.

Capcom celebrates the release with a launch trailer.

Capcom’s open world action RPG, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is out now for the Nintendo Switch, bringing its rich world, intricate combat mechanics, and fantasy setting to a Nintendo system for the first time ever. To celebrate its release, Capcom and Nintendo have put out a launch trailer as well, which you can view below.

The trailer shows various shots from many locations in the game’s vast and varied world, many snippets of its highly praised combat system, with all manner of beast, and several different weapon types, from swords to bow and arrows, to magical attacks. And, of course, it’s looking visually solid as well.

Dragon’s Dogma remains a fan-favourite title for millions, having endeared itself to the masses upon release despite shortcomings, and winning over even more people with the release of Dark Arisen. The Nintendo Switch release seems like a great time to jump back in, or to experience it for the first time, if you haven’t played it before.

Capcom have previously mentioned that if Dragon’s Dogma proves to be successful on the Switch, it might compel them to release other games on the platform as well- such as Devil May Cry 5. Meanwhile, creator and director Hideaki Itsuno hopes to work on Dragon’s Dogma 2 as well- so let’s hope his wish is granted soon.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, the open world action RPG from the producer of the Devil May Cry series, will hit the Nintendo Switch this April, as we already know. And now, more than a month in advance, if you want to play the game when it releases, without any delay, you can go ahead and pre-load the game on your system via the eShop.

There’s also a brand new trailer announcing this news and showing off new footage of the game, which you can see for yourself below. If you have any interest in the game, you should buy it, especially since, for some reason, if you buy this, it will convince Capcom to put Devil May Cry 5 on the Switch. Don’t ask me how that works, I’m just the messenger.

That said, Dragon’s Dogma is a great game nevertheless, and I think it would be great on the Switch, benefitting from being a massive RPG that you can just play whenever you please and wherever you please, not unlike Skyrim or Breath of the Wild.

As is usually the case with Capcom, it looks like a really great port.

Capcom announced a Switch port of their popular open world action RPG Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen recently. This actually marks the first time the IP, and indeed, a game by Hideaki Itsuno, the custodian of the Devil May Cry franchise, has shown up on a Nintendo platform. As such, for many, this is an adequately big deal.

Now, we have some footage of the game running on the Switch for the very first time, thanks to Nintendo Everything. Disappointingly enough, this is mostly in docked mode, so we don’t get to see how well it holds up in handheld mode. Nonetheless, in docked mode, this appears to be yet another excellent Capcom port (Capcom’s ports to the Switch have been unerringly excellent and technically proficient at leveraging the hardware), which should probably be enough incentive for many to consider picking it up.

You can check out the footage for yourself below. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen launches on Switch on April 23. It is also out now on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Capcom's hack and slash action RPG is heading to the Switch for just $29.99.

Out of nowhere, Capcom has announced that its hack and slash action RPG Dragon’s Dogma, which first released in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360, will be coming to Nintendo Switch. It’s out on April 23rd and will retail for $29.99. Check out the announcement trailer below.

As you’d expect, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen includes the base game, and the Dark Arisen expansion pack that released post-launch. The game itself has tons to do, with large monsters to battle, nine Vocations to try out and master, and different Pawns (aka followers) to recruit. The Nintendo Switch version will also feature a revamped UI for better visibility, along with online support for the Pawn system.

Even better is the fact that players won’t need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to access the game’s online features. One of the core appeals of the Pawn system is downloading other players’ pawns and testing them out. Couple that with the ability to play Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen on the go in handheld form, and you have a worthwhile action RPG to play.

Capcom will be releasing Dragon’s Dogma for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this Fall after it hit the PC last year. To showcase what fans can expect, a new Japanese trailer has gone live containing Xbox One/PS4 gameplay.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen for the current gen consoles will contain all the content and updates released for the game in its lifetime. Along with the base game and its DLC, there’s the Dark Arisen expansion which adds new weapons, a new area called Bitterblack Isle and much more. You can also expect graphical improvements on top of everything else.

The Xbox One/PS4 port will actually be celebrating the series’ fifth anniversary and if you haven’t played the game back in 2012 or for the PC in 2016, it’s worth checking out. Capcom is currently managing Dragon’s Dogma Online, a free to play title set in the universe and currently available for the PS3, PC and PS4 in Japan. It has no release date for the West but the franchise is at least alive in some respects.

Rejoice!

Fans of Dragon’s Dogma, rejoice- Capcom has confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, the update and definitive release of Capcom’s acclaimed and cult hit open world action RPG from the previous generation, will be releasing on the Xbox One and PS4 later this year. That means everyone who missed out on playing the game the last time around now has a chance to check out just what the hype was about.

The re-release will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the series. The original game, as well as Dark Arisen, launched on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Dark Arisen originally came to PC last year (although not in Japan- it will be launching in Japan this Fall alongside the new console versions). This is the first appearance of the series on current generation systems.

Hopefully this hints at a future for the franchise beyond just re-releases and Japan only MMOs. Dragon’s Dogma 2, Capcom, come on.

The long-awaited 2013 title finally comes to PC but how does it perform?

Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is heading to the PC in the next couple of days. Before you shake your head and wonder what year it is, yes, this is the same Dragon’s Dogma that released in April 2013 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Due to popular demand, the enhanced version of the action RPG has finally made its way to PC – which tells you a lot about what can be achieved with enough fan support.

For all intents and purposes, Dark Arisen is essentially an expansion of the original game, adding a new zone, items, quests and weapons to go with the base game. It’s built on Capcom’s MT Framework, an engine which has been in use since the first Dead Rising.

With the PC release of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, it’s interesting to note how the visuals have evolved since then. The MT Framework engine served as a reliable framework for Capcom, powering titles ranging from Resident Evil 6 to Marvel vs. Capcom 3. To say that it’s diverse is an understatement and it was capable of making use of the multi-core CPUs in the PS3 and Xbox 360 to implement techniques like motion blur. It’s also fairly old – Capcom brought about its current generation Panta Rhei engine in order to replace MT Framework to increase efficiency for design and workflow. The results can be seen in Deep Down for the PlayStation 4 which makes use of deferred rendering, dynamic light sources, specular light reflections and more.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen actually makes strong usage of PC hardware to bring about source texture assets that couldn’t be displayed on the Xbox 360 and PS3 due to their limited memory. The question is whether it measures up to the latest Capcom has to offer in Panta Rhei. That’s not taking into consideration what Capcom has been doing with Dragon’s Dogma Online, the MMO which runs at 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second while offering several characters on-screen at once.

The PC version has more to offer than just improved textures. Along with options for a variable frame rate, the game now essentially run at 60 frames per second and at 4K resolution, providing a huge advantage over the previous gen console versions. Players get the usual array of DLCs, 16:9 aspect ratio support and even support for 144 Hz monitors to allow playing the game at 144 frames per second.

The graphical settings are fairly diverse as well. You can adjust the resolution and frame rate along with refresh rate but there is also a chance to change the anti-aliasing for up to FXAA3HQ. HDR can be toggled, texture filtering goes up to 16x anisotropic filtering, and factors like texture detail, shadow quality, grass quality, depth of field, FOV, distance scaling and more can be modified.

How does the game run though? We tested Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen on both a SAPPHIRE TRI-X OC Radeon R9 290 4GB and an AMD FX 8350 with 16 GB of memory at 1080p resolution. All settings were maxed out. Given the game’s relative age, it should look and run amazing, right?

Check out our complete analysis of the game including an in-depth comparison with the PS3 version in the video below. Select 1080p and 60fps option for best possibly video playback quality.

Unfortunately, performance was fairly spotty. Screen tearing was quite abundant due to the engine trying to maintain a locked 60 FPS frame rate. Night time settings did help to achieve this frame rate but it would often drop to the lower 30s at times. Day time settings saw similar performance but the random frame drops continued. Odd as it may sound, whenever characters would move around, the 60 FPS frame rate seemed incredibly fluid. When things stopped, the frame rate seemed to drop down to the low 40s. We’re not quite sure why this was happening and could be attributed to sub-standard optimization in places. It’s still odd all the same.

When comparing Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen to the PS3 version, the biggest difference can be seen in the image quality. The PS3 version managed a 1280×608 resolution with a low 20 to variable 30 frames per second. Compare this to the PC version which, despite its frame rate issues, still delivers a crisp 1080p resolution with excellent anisotropic filtering to improve image quality. The improved texture filtering doesn’t do many favours for the textures though – at AF 16x, you’ll notice textures becoming blurrier the closer you look. More detailed shadows, denser foliage, better draw distance and other features definitely put the PC version miles above the original PS3 release though.

Make no mistake – Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is not a current gen game, even if the PC version does help it to realize features that weren’t possible on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Some modern techniques like global illumination and physically based rendering are missing. That being said, those who experienced the game at a less than ideal resolution and frame rate should take a look at the PC version, if only to witness a better experience than what the previous gen consoles were capable of.

Those expecting visuals to rival the hits in 2015 will be somewhat disappointed but in terms of aesthetic and scale, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is conceptually in a different place as well. We’re still unsure about the frame rate issues that occurred but hopefully, future patches will rectify the same. At this stage, the PC version of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is worth a look for those who want a compelling action RPG with a significant scale. Just don’t walk in expecting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and you’ll be fine.
