The new line-up complements the previous series of controllers and headphones released in the Midnight Black colour scheme.

Sony has unveiled a new line-up of PS5 accessories. Dubbed the Midnight Black Collection, the line-up includes a DualSense Edge, Pulse Explore, Pulse Elite and PlayStation Portal, all sporting the Midnight Black colour scheme that Sony says was inspired by galaxies.

The new Midnight Black Collection peripherals are meant to complement previously released peripherals – the DualSense and PS5 console covers – with the same colour scheme.

While it largely revolves around a shade of black, there is also some detailing on various parts of the peripherals. This includes various buttons and accents like the PlayStation logo. In keeping with this, the charging case for the Pulse Explore earbuds also sport the same colours with similar accent detailing.

The new Midnight Black Collection peripherals are slated to hit stores on February 20, with pre-orders kicking off on January 16 through PlayStation’s own website. The PlayStation Portal is priced at $199.99, the Pulse Explore wireless earbuds are priced at $199.99, the Pulse Elite wireless headset is $149.99, and the DualSense Edge controller costs $199.99.

The entire collection has already sold out on PlayStation Direct, with scalpers reselling them at exorbitant prices on eBay.

Pre-orders are now available for the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, a line-up of consoles and accessories with PlayStation One styling. The PS5 Pro – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle is the priciest, retailing for $999.99 (disc drive not included) on PlayStation Direct.

With only 12,300 produced, it’s a significantly bigger deal than the rest of the collection. As expected, it’s sold out, with scalpers reselling their pre-orders for several times more in Europe and the UK via eBay, that too successfully.

Aside from the PS5 Pro bundle, there are 30th Anniversary versions of the PS5 Digital Edition for $499.99, followed by the PlayStation Portal and DualSense Edge at $219.99 each. The regular DualSense is the cheapest at $79.99. And yes, they’re also sold out.

The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection launches on November 21st. Meanwhile, the regular PS5 Pro, which retails for $699.99, launches on November 7th.
The line-up also features a PlayStation One-stylized DualSense, DualSense Edge, PlayStation Portal, and PS5 Digital Edition.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Sony has announced a limited edition line-up of PS5 consoles and accessories that evoke the PlayStation One’s aesthetic. That’s right – you can own a PS5 Pro or PS5 Digital Edition in the classic grey shade. Check out the trailer below – the line-up launches on November 21st.

The PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle includes the console, a DualSense and DualSense Edge, and the DualSense Charging Station. It even has a console cover for the disc drive (still sold separately, unfortunately). Fortunately, it has a Vertical Stand and some collector’s items, including cable ties based on the PlayStation Shapes.

The PS5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle includes the same items and Vertical Stand, albeit with only one DualSense and a console cover. You can also pick up 30th Anniversary Limited Edition versions of the PlayStation Portal, DualSense and DualSense Edge.

Of course, quantities are limited – the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary bundle will only have 12,300 units, each etched with numbers indicating the date of the PS One’s launch. Pre-orders for the bundle alongside the PlayStation Portal and DualSense Edge (standalone) begin on September 26th via PlayStation Direct and retailers.

The same applies to the PS5 Digital Edition bundle from PlayStation Direct, though pre-orders at retailers start on October 10th. Finally, the DualSense Wireless (standalone) is only available to pre-order from retailers on September 26th.

Meanwhile, the “regular” PS5 Pro launches on November 7th, retailing for $699.99.
Launching November 7th worldwide, the upgraded console is comparable to the original PS5 in height and the PS5 Slim in width.

The recently announced PS5 Pro promises some interesting features, but besides rendering power, how does it physically compare to the PS5 and PS5 Slim? Sony confirmed it’s the same height as the base PS5, while the width is similar to the Slim.

Thanks to the new outer vents, players must purchase new console covers as they become available (release dates have yet to be confirmed). A vertical stand must be purchased separately and the same goes for a disc drive. The PS5 Pro supports Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drives, including the one currently available for the PS5 Slim.

It also includes a DualSense wireless controller, a solid-state drive with 2 TB of space, and Astro’s Playroom. All current accessories are compatible with the Pro, from PlayStation VR2 and DualSense Edge to the Access controller and PlayStation Portal.

PS5 Pro launches on November 7th for $699.99. Check out some PS5 titles that will receive free patches to take advantage of its features here.

The premium wireless controller launches on January 26th for $199.99 and includes customizable stick modules, back buttons, and more.

Sony has released a new firmware update for the PlayStation 5. Firmware update 6.50 is pretty simple – it improves system performance, like many prior updates. The key new feature is support for the upcoming DualSense Edge.

Releasing on January 26th for $199.99, the DualSense Edge is a new premium wireless controller with customization options. The analog stick caps, stick modules and back buttons are changeable, and the trigger stops and dead zones are adjustable. On top of this, each controller comes with a carrying case, connector housing and USB braided cable.

You also get two standard, low dome and high dome stick caps each, along with two each of the lever and hard dome back buttons. Pre-orders are already live, and you can learn more about the design process here.

The PS5’s next major update is rumored to be firmware update 7.00 in March, which apparently adds Discord integration and cloud streaming for PS5 games. A beta test is reportedly coming soon, so stay tuned for more details.

A new video dives into how Sony designed what's being billed as PlayStation’s first-ever high-performance ultra-customizable controller.

Sony unveiled the new DualSense Edge controller for the PS5 earlier this year, touting it as PlayStation’s first-ever high-performance ultra-customizable controller. The pro controller is set to launch in January, and ahead of its imminent release, Sony has released a new video in which the designers behind the controller talk about the process of creating it and improving upon the original DualSense.

As per the designers, carrying over the DualSense’s form factor as is into the Edge controller was a crucial, non-negotiable element of the process, which, of course, meant that fitting the added inputs and elements on it within the same form factor brought about some complications.

Along with that, Sony also consulted with various pro gamers, and set out to design a controller that would be highly customizable in a number of ways, allowing users to adjust aspects based on their specific needs, and based on which game they’re playing. That includes everything from the back buttons and the analog sticks to the triggers and the new Function buttons and more being adjustable in a variety of ways.

Meanwhile, new details are also revealed on how the PS5’s in-built UI will make all of that customization much easier and more efficient, with players being able to create multiple profiles with different presets. Check out the video below for more details.

The DualSense Edge will launch on January 26 for a price of $199.99. It’s been confirmed that its battery life will be “moderately shorter” than the original DualSense.

Sony says that's down to having "included many more features within the same form factor and ergonomic design as the original DualSense controller."

The battery lives of controllers continue to get progressively shorter and shorter, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to be remedied anytime soon. Sony is launching a new, premium controller for the PS5 on January 26 with the “ultra-customizable” DualSense Edge, and though it’s going to be an upgrade over the base controller in several areas, battery life isn’t going to be one of them.

In a statement to The Verge, Sony confirmed that due the DualSense Edge having “many more features within the same form factor and ergonomic design as the original DualSense controller”, it will have a “moderately shorter” battery life than the latter.

“The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s operating time is moderately shorter than the original DualSense wireless controller because we’ve included many more features within the same form factor and ergonomic design as the original DualSense controller,” the company said. “We wanted to strike a good balance between wireless operating time and delivering robust, high-performance features. Additionally, the longer USB braided cable is also great for competitive players who prefer playing with a wired connection to avoid wireless interference – this option preserves battery life.”

Of course, “moderately shorter” is a pretty vague term, so questions will still be asked about what one can expect from the DualSense Edge’s battery exactly. The base DualSense’s battery life isn’t exactly the best, lasting on average about 7-8 eight hours per charge (though it can occasionally last up to 12 hours), so expect a pretty short battery life for the Edge.

Given the fact that the controller will be priced at $199.99, that might not be to everyone’s liking.

Akin to the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller, the DualSense Edge offers remappable buttons, multiple control profiles, swappable back buttons, and more.

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, Sony announced the DualSense Edge for PS5. This wireless controller is the company’s first-ever ultra-customizable controller, not unlike Xbox’s Elite Wireless Controller series. A new PlayStation Blog post outlined some of its features, including remapping button inputs, deactivating them entirely, adjusting stick sensitivity and dead zones, and reduced travel distance for the triggers.

Players can also save multiple control profiles and change them on the fly. There’s also an “Fn” button to access the settings, adjust game and chat volumes, swap between control profiles, and more. You can also change the stick caps and back buttons with three types (standard, high dome and low dome) for the former and two types (half-dome and lever) for the latter.

It also includes the ability to replace each stick module, though these are sold separately. Along with a USB Type-C braided cable, a carrying case is provided. A price and launch date haven’t been revealed, but more details are slated for the “months ahead.” Stay tuned in the meantime.
