As a result of the game's underperformance, Frontier Developments has reduced its revenue projections for FY23 and FY24.

F1 fans got a double dose of gaming representation last year, with Frontier Developments entering the fray with F1 Manager 2022 to join Codemasters’ year F1 franchise. The management simulation title, however, doesn’t seem to have done very well for itself, at least from a commercial perspective.

In its recently published financial report, Frontier Developments has revealed that F1 Manager 2022 has sold over 600,000 units worldwide since its release in August last year. The developer states that though player engagement numbers were roughly aligned with projects upon launch and in the initial post-launch period, the game ended up performing “materially below expectations” in the Holiday period, “potentially due in part to increased player price sensitivity related to worsening economic conditions.”

Frontier Developments confirms that though prior releases like Jurassic World Evolution, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster, and Elite Dangerous have continued to perform to expectations, the below par sales of F1 Manager 2022 have resulted in the developer lowering its revenue and profit projects for FY23 and FY24.

In October, just a few weeks on from the game’s launch, Frontier Developments announced that F1 Manager 2022 would no longer receive further support as far as major new gameplay features and content additions were concerned.

F1 Manager 2022 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

A new update to fix issues with Race Time calculations and fuel usage in Qualifying sessions is coming, per Frontier Developments.

Following its announcement of ending support for F1 Manager 2022 roughly two months after launch, Frontier Developments has provided an update. On Reddit, it noted that support would continue with “multiple updates currently in the pipeline, focused on addressing the most important topics raised by the community. ”

However, there won’t be any “new significant gameplay features,” which the earlier announcement was meant to convey. There does seem to be some confusion, though. The previous announcement said the issue of cars not unlapping wouldn’t be addressed further due to requiring “significant gameplay alterations.”

Yet in the new post, the developer said that it’s “not considered a gameplay feature” and “remains on our list of topics we’re investigating for F1 Manager 2022. We’ll continue to provide more specific details on what else we’re working on as soon as it’s confirmed.” Though it led to accusations of back-pedaling due to backlash from the community, it could have been a simple internal miscommunication.

In the meantime, the next update promises several improvements, like fixes for issues regarding Race Time calculations and fuel usage in Qualifying sessions. Other updates are about, “improving your experience and addressing more player reports.” Stay tuned in the meantime.

F1 Manager 2022 is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Check out our official review here.

The management sim title is barely a couple of months old, but Frontier Developments is already moving on from post-launch support.

Well, this is a little strange- and more than a little disappointing. Frontier Developments’ F1 Manager 2022 launched roughly two months back and was received with solid reception from critics and players alike, but it seems like the developer is making some questionable decisions where the game’s post-launch plans are concerned.

What decisions exactly? There are no post-launch plans- or nothing significant enough to speak of, at any rate. In a post published on Reddit, the developer has confirmed that it’s already ending post-launch support for F1 Manager 2022. Its next update is going to be the last significant update it receives.

“To ensure upcoming F1 Manager projects realise their potential and meet the expectations of both our team and our community, the development team’s focus must move fully onto projects beyond F1 Manager 2022, after this upcoming update,” Frontier Developments writes.

The management simulator will might continue to get smaller updates, and currently known existing issues with the game will be addressed, but you shouldn’t expect anything major where post-launch updates are concerned going forward.

For a game that’s only a couple of months old, that’s disappointing, to say the least, and doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the developer’s long-term plans for the series, for which it has a multi-year deal in place.

In our review of F1 Manager 2022, we awarded it a score of 7/10, saying, “F1 Manager 22 does a decent job learning from other management simulations but only rarely feels like a step forward for the genre.” Read the full review through here.

F1 Manager 2022 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The Last of Us Part 1 takes the top spot, while F1 Manager 2022 comes in at No. 4. Another new release, TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection, is in at No. 3.

The Gfk has released the latest weekly data for physical software sales in the UK (via GamesIndustry), and there are a number of new releases in the charts this week. As reported earlier, The Last of Us Part 1 has “narrowly” topped the charts, and sold about half as many physical copies at launch as Saints Row did upon its debut the week before (though the latter had three additional days on the market as compared to the former).

Fellow PlayStation exclusive Horizon Forbidden West still ranks high as well, coming in at second place, in spite of a 46% drop in sales from last week. Meanwhile, in third place we have another new release with Digital Eclipse and Konami’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, while Frontier Developments’ management simulation game F1 Manager 2022 debuts in fourth place.

Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed and LEGO Brawls have both failed to break into the top 10, debuting at No. 16 and No. 30 respectively. Meanwhile, perennial sellers like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and Nintendo Switch Sports once again factor into the top 10 as well.

You can check out the full top 10 for the week ending September 3 below.

F1 Manager is a nice collection of elements that most manager sim fans would want, but rarely feels like more than the sum of those parts.

Despite not having a definitive annual franchise like the proper F1 series of racing games, the genre of racing management sims has been a thing for a while with a few sporadic releases over the last couple of decades. Demand has clearly outpaced supply though, as the modding communities around the few racing management games that do exist have been pretty busy trying to satisfy this niche. F1 Manager 2022 is an officially licensed F1 Management game though, and from what I can tell, it’s got a pretty good handle on what makes a competent management simulator despite rarely feeling like more than a sum of those parts.

Once you select which of the ten teams you’ll be starting with, it’s off the races as it were. Choosing your pit crew, engineering team, scouters and more are all done one-by-one from a list of free agents, and doing your best to get the most promising talent is a little overwhelming at first with so many choices, but once you get your arms around the general stats you see for them, it really just comes down to what you want to put emphasis on. There is rarely a wrong answer. Plus different types of training facilities can also be used to compensate for most shortcomings.

"Selecting drivers and staff isn’t as fun as it could have been, as it’s missing a lot of the depth offered by the talent acquisition mechanics in other games’ team management modes."

Selecting drivers and staff isn’t as fun as it could have been, as it’s missing a lot of the depth offered by the talent acquisition mechanics in other games’ team management modes. Here, the list of drivers can be altered through poaching and some basic recruiting, but I never felt like choosing one candidate over another had much of a long-term impact once I got them into the pipeline of training them and getting them ready to take over for the old guard. It’s fine for what it is, but more depth here could have made this part of the process more impactful.

Still, this part integrates some nice RPG elements into the gameplay by developing each member of your team more and more as you do better in the races and accomplishing different tasks assigned by the board. Same more-or-less goes for the facilities you train in. There’s not much there when it comes to designing them or customizing them but you can upgrade them on an individual basis. Improving your wind tunnel or suspension simulator generally increases the amount of experience they offer in their respective areas and that can give you lots of incentive to focus on them early on. Also they degrade over time, so you’ll occasionally have to refurbish them if you don’t regularly upgrade them.

Races can be completely simulated if you wish, with the practice, qualifiers, and races themselves all being executed automatically with results that are seemingly based on how well or poorly you managed your preparation leading up to the race. I never quite felt satisfied with the outcome of these simulations personally, as I felt I generally did a good job with preparing and training, but with the sheer number of moving parts that are likely factored into the algorithm here I very well might be missing something. Cracking the code on this to get simulated races to turn out exactly how I want is likely something I’m probably not supposed to be able to do though, and would make the game less fun anyway.

"Learning how to adapt dynamically to events as they unfold and even prepare for them beforehand is where the most compelling experience lies."

For those that do want a bit more control, you can affect the racer’s strategy in real-time with driver commands, scheduling pit stops, and just generally balancing out the pros and cons with being more defensive or aggressive in any given situation, which is the name of the game here. Changing conditions related to weather, surface conditions, and even changes to the leagues regulations can happen so mastering the ins and outs of how the game plays is really just the beginning. Learning how to adapt dynamically to events as they unfold and even prepare for them beforehand is where the most compelling experience lies.

Tweaking your set up is something you’ll be doing a lot, and it’s about as intuitive as it probably could be while still including the amount of variables it does. Adjusting your front wing angle, rear wing angle, anti-roll distribution, tire camber and toe out is just scratching the surface when you factor in all of the different types of parts that also affect the ultimate results. For instance the softness of the tire can be matched or mismatched with the surface conditions to varying effects. Again, it’s not as deep as some management modes of other racing sims in this regard, but it’s enough to make you feel like you have a lot of control, and that’s the point I suppose.

Some finely-tuned visual effects and soft lighting can make F1 Manager 2022’s presentation appear stellar at times. For a game with such a focus on UI and menus, the character models look pretty good. Well, for main racers anyway. Seeing them standing in a showroom by themselves you’d think we’ve finally come upon a racing game with good looking human models, but the minute you see them talking to a crew member, you’ll see more of the dead-eyed low-detail NPC stuff that we’ve come to expect, which is a shame. Significant or not, seeing these models look so dated does quite a number on the immersion factor of the game. The UI on the other hand is similar to what you would see in other modern racing sims, and it’s reasonably laid out consistently throughout the game. Common UI language cues like using the triggers and shoulder buttons to scoot around to different menus and arrow keys to shift around within them make enough sense, and you can usually get around pretty easily despite some of the animations associated with them not being perfectly smooth, sifting around into different areas is a fairly breezy process.

"Unprecedentedly deep or extremely addicting it is not, but F1 Manager 2022 does serviceably take care of the audience it seems primarily aimed at, while hopefully laying the foundation for a steady stream of new and improved sequels to follow."

F1 Manager 2022 brings a lot of key elements that have emerged in previous iterations of the genre as well as manager modes from other – more recent – simulation sports games. While a lot of its ideas are borrowed from one or the other, it integrates them pretty well for the most part and sprinkles in a few neat touches like managing team confidence with accomplishing tasks and approving budget requests. It doesn’t do any one thing outstandingly well, but also never really fails to feel like a fully-featured simulation manager game. If an officially licensed F1 game totally focused on preparing, executing, and learning from data collected after F1 races is an itch you’ve been wanting to scratch for a while, then this will probably take care of that for you to some extent. Unprecedentedly deep or extremely addicting it is not, but it does serviceably take care of the audience it seems primarily aimed at, while hopefully laying the foundation for a steady stream of new and improved sequels to follow.

Frontier Developments’ F1 Manager 2022 is out next week, and a new launch trailer is available to celebrate the fact. There’s plenty of high-speed racing and drama, but for those who pre-ordered the game digitally on any platform, early access is available now on PC via Steam.

While titles like Codemasters’ F1 22 focus more on the driving side (with ample team management), F1 Manager 2022 is all about being the boss. As Team Principal, you choose from one of 10 teams and must ultimately lead it to success. Recruit various staff and drivers from F1, F2 and F3, develop them accordingly, upgrade and maintain facilities, and develop your cars to be the best.

The actual races offer authentic, broadcast-style presentations, with David Croft and Karun Chandhok providing race commentary. F1 Manager 2022 is out on August 30th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC.
August is packed with all kinds of releases, from high-profile ports to long-awaited sequels and reboots. Here are 10 games that stand out.

The Fall season inches closer but there’s still plenty to look forward to in the months before, starting with August. Sequels, reboots and long-awaited ports await with something for everyone. Let’s take a look at 10 of the biggest games to play in August 2022.

Rollerdrome

OlliOlli World developer Roll7 is known for its chill skating experiences but Rollerdrome goes down a more violent route. Described as a “skating game where you’re not just skating” and a “shooting game where you’re not just shooting,” the story is set in 2030 where esports, social media, flat-screen displays and more have never been invented. Instead, the public gets its entertainment from Rollerdrome, a bloody arena sport where combatants skate and gun each other down. As Kara, players battle snipers, hooligans, armored foes, and even robots to make their mark.

The mechanics are fairly straightforward – shoot enemies to recover health, perform tricks to regenerate ammo. Each arena is a skate park with numerous possibilities, as one skillfully dodges attacks, slows down time for precise shots and chains combos together. Rollerdrome is out on August 16th for PS4, PS5 and PC. PlayStation Plus subscribers and PC players can get it at a reduced price for the first two weeks.

Two Point Campus

Two Point Studios brings its zany humor and management sim shenanigans into the world of education with Two Point Campus. Create your own university by placing various decorations, fences and vegetation, and then hire staff to teach your students. These aren’t your typical courses though as students will attend Knight School (with full medieval armor and jousting), take on Wizardry for magical duels and potion-crafting, or Spy School to root out any rival spies.

As you know more about the students and their personalities, you can organize different clubs and events to better foster their development. Two Point Campus is out on August 9th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Rumbleverse

Following its work on Seasons 2 and 3 of Killer Instinct on Xbox, Iron Galaxy Studios is back with a brand new melee-focused title in Rumbleverse, which releases August 11th on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Unlike the combo-tastic 3D fighter though, this a free-to-play battle royale where 40 players are dumped into the map and must fight to the end. Close quarters brawls are the name of the game, as you unleash basic and strong attacks, and acquire magazines to learn more powerful special moves and takedowns.

Use weapons like baseball bats, climb anywhere and stay within the circle to ultimately emerge victorious. Along with a Battle Pass, it includes micro-transactions for different cosmetics to customize one’s avatar with. It may not feed the combo-breaker crowd but Rumbleverse looks intriguing, if nothing else.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, the critically-acclaimed, multi-million selling open-world title, finally comes to PC on August 13th. It features Peter Parker as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, having battled villains for years and protected Manhattan. Things take a turn though when Mister Negative and his gang start causing an uproar. Who else but Spider-Man to stop them?

As an enhanced version of Insomniac’s 2018 title, the remaster adds new suits, ray tracing and 4K resolution support. Ben Jordan also replaces John Bubniak as the face of Peter Parker. The PC version offers a number of options and features including higher-quality ray tracing, unlocked frame rates, Ultra-wide monitor support, mouse and keyboard controls, and Nvidia DLSS and DLAA support. If Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War (2018) are any indication, then Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered should be another PC hit for Sony.

Thymesia

Though it seems like just another Souls-like, OverBorder Studio’s Thymesia embodies a horror atmosphere with its plague-ridden setting. As a mysterious character named Corvus, players explore the fallen Kingdom of Hermes, battling infected creatures that roam the streets. Corvus is capable of fixing things (hopefully) but must rediscover lost memories to learn the truth. In the meantime, one must fight their way through, wielding plague weapons and using a raven form, complete with executions, to slay foes. Thymesia releases on August 18th for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.

Madden NFL 23

Another year, another slate of EA Sports titles, kicking off first with Madden NFL 23 on August 19th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Featuring John Madden as the cover star in honor of his passing last year, features like Face of the Franchise, Ultimate Team, and more return for another run. There are plenty of changes though, like Motivations and Tags that can influence Free Agent negotiations, the new Free Agency Hub, and new Scouting features for a more “efficient” process.

Current-gen versions also get FieldSENSE, which offers new control mechanics and branching animation technology for mid-air knockouts and Skill-Based Passing. It sounds all well and good but will this year’s edition finally carry the franchise forward? We’ll have to wait and find out.

Saints Row

Saints Row marks the first mainline title in the series since 2013’s Saints Row 4. However, instead of following the 3rd Street Saints and fighting aliens, Volition’s newest open-world epic is a reboot. Set in Santa Ileso, it sees The Boss starting out as a grunt for Marshall Defense Industries. Eventually, they work with Neenah and Kevin, disgruntled members of Los Panteros and The Idols, along with entrepreneur Eli to form their own gang.

Don’t let the whole “start-up company” approach fool you though – Saints Row still features plenty of chaos, from establishing businesses to front for illegal activities like heists to sandbox rampages. Customization is more in-depth than ever, starting with The Boss and extending to your fellow gang members, weapons, cars, and much more. With nine districts to explore, tons of side activities (including old favorites like Insurance Fraud), and drop-in/drop-out co-op, Saints Row looks to be a fun time. It releases on August 23rd for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Google Stadia.

Soul Hackers 2

If you’ve been itching for some more Shin Megami Tensei-style gameplay, then Soul Hackers 2 should fill that void. Releasing on August 26th worldwide for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC, it’s set in the future where two factions of summoners are at war and civilization as a whole is on the decline. After predicting the end of the world, the mysterious Aion sends two agents – Ringo and Figue – to stop it.

Many elements of the franchise – like fusing demons and summoning them in battle – are still a thing here. But each character relies on COMPs with different effects, exploiting enemy weaknesses for Stacks, and then using these for massively damaging attacks. In between exploring dungeons and upgrading COMPs, players will also hangout with different party members, increasing their Soul Level to unlock new abilities.

Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed

Following up on the Destroy All Humans! remake from 2020, Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed is a remake of Pandemic Studios’ 2006 sequel. Crypto returns, blasting his way through a myriad of locations like Tunguska, Takoshima, Bay City and Solaris. Weapons like the Meteor Strike for calling down meteors and the Burrow Beast which summons an underground monster to consume enemies, are available. Or you could use the flying saucer’s Quantum Deconstructor and Anti-Gravfield to wreak destruction on entire cities.

A proper management simulation for Formula One has been a long time coming but Frontier Developments’ F1 Manager 2022 could be the one. Based on the 2022 Formula One, Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championships, it offers an extensive Career Mode with long-term goals and seasonal targets. As you build up your team, you’ll manage drivers, staff, finances and car design – emphasizing performance or a more balanced approach.

This is in addition to features like a strategy editor for scheduling pit stops and pace, regulation changes that can suddenly emerge, a realistic presentation, and commentators like David Croft, Martin Brundle, and Karun Chandhok. F1 Manager 2022 is out on August 30th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC.

Here's what you should know about Frontier Developments' upcoming F1 management sim.

Thanks to Codemasters, the F1 license has had a major presence in the gaming space for quite some time now, and with all the success that the annual racing sim series has enjoyed on both critical and commercial fronts, it’s now branching out into new genres as well. August 30th will see the launch of F1 Manager 2022, a management simulation sim developed by Frontier Developments of Elite Dangerous and Jurassic World Evolution fame, that’ll put a completely different spin on the F1 formula- as the Football Manager to F1’s FIFA, if you will. It’s no surprise that more than a few people are excited to get their hands on the game, and ahead of its imminent launch, here, we’re going to go over some key details that you should know about it.

CAREER MODE

The meat and potatoes of the experience in F1 Manager 2022 is obviously going to be the career mode, and given that this is a sports management simulation game, you should have a decent idea of what to expect. F1 Manager 2022 will feature Formula One, Formula 2, and Formula 3, and will task you with choosing a team and then managing it down to the finest details, charting and deciding its future over the course of season after season. That, as you would imagine, is going to entail quite a lot- so let’s get down to that.

HQ

Your headquarters will, of course, be your base of operations as you manage your team in F1 Manager 2022. In between the actual races, this is where you’ll be doing must of your stuff, which will include things such as scouting, hiring, and poaching staff from other teams, signing drivers, upgrading facilities, managing your finances, and much more.

RACING STRATEGIES

You’ll have similar control over what’s going on during actual races as well- this is an F1 game, after all. While you’re not going to be doing any of the driving yourself, you will be deciding the details of your racing strategy. This will include schedule pit stops, choosing tyres, driver callouts, and much more. Using data gathered by staff and taking feedback from drivers into account will be important as you decide the details of your strategies.

DYNAMIC EVENTS

While deciding strategies will obviously be crucial and will give your drivers prescribed directions for races, being the Team Principal means you’ll also have to react and adapt to situations on the fly. To that end, F1 Manager 2022 will also feature dynamic events in its races, such as weather conditions or changing surface conditions, which will force players to change their strategies and make new decisions. Outside of races, regulation changes can also happen during the season, further forcing you to adapt.

DRIVER AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Developing both your drivers and your staff will be key to how your team progresses and whether or not you’re able to hit your short- and long-term goals. As you might expect, the development of staff and drivers will be interdependent in a lot of ways. The better you perform in races, for instance, the more your staff will develop, which, in turn, will enable better performances. Upgrading Facilities will also allow for development in various ways- like your race simulator, which can be upgraded to increase the experience your drivers gain. Players will also be able to train the pit staff and set their strategies, while free practice sessions during weekends can be used to boost the development of younger drivers.

ATTRIBUTES

Both drivers and staff members will have different attributes and ratings, as you might image. Cornering, breaking, overtaking, control, and other performance-related attributes will obviously be the focal point for drivers, while staff members’ attributes will vary based on what their roles are, from technical chief to race engineer, with attributes such as communication and pit crew feedback. The better you perform, the more experience points your staff and drivers gain, which can be used to improve their attributes even further. With drivers determining results on the track and your staff laying down the foundations behind-the-scenes, keeping an eye on and managing their attributes will be a crucial component of the game’s progression systems.

RECRUITMENT

Recruitment is going to be another key area that players will have to focus on in F1 Manager 2022. We’ve already mentioned that signing drivers and scouting and poaching staff will be important elements, but building for the future of your team will be just as important. Established stars with higher ratings in your team will be crucial in several ways, of course, but younger up-and-coming drivers with growth potential could be trained and developed into future stars as well. As you’d expect from a management simulation sim of this king, F1 Manager 2022 is promising to give players the opportunity to foster a long line of stars and racing legends.

FACTORY

Managing and upgrading your facilities, staff, and drivers will be among the core pillars of F1 Manager 2022’s overarching structure- but of course, there’s going to be plenty of work to do with the cars themselves. Improving your cars will be a crucial part your of your short- and long-term plans as well, and the Factory will be your hub for all of that. From developing new parts to your car to swapping out and assigning new ones to prepare for upcoming races, it looks like F1 Manager 2022 will give players plenty of control on this front as well.

BROADCAST PRESENTATION

Production values aren’t really supposed to be the point in management sims, and while that is definitely the case here as well, F1 Manager 2022 does seem to be doing quite a bit in this area, almost surprisingly so. You shoudn’t expect top-notch and ultra-detailed visuals, but during races, the game is promising realistic broadcast quality with onboard cameras, camera angles based on those used in real races, as well as commentary from professional commentators Martin Brundle, Karun Chandhok and David Croft. The game also features real life team radio from real Formula One drivers and staff.

PRICE AND PRE-ORDERS

When F1 Manager 2022 launches on August 30 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, it’ll be sold at a price of $59.99. That said, those who pre-order the game digitally will get a 10% discount (for which PlayStation players will require a PlayStation Plus subscription). Meanwhile, pre-ordering the game will give you early access to the game five days ahead of its global launch, on August 25.

PC REQUIREMENTS

F1 Manager 2022 is going to be available on consoles as well, but if you’re planning on playing it on PC (which would make sense, especially for a management sim), you’re not going to have to meet incredibly high requirements. On minimum settings, the game will require either an Intel Core i5-4590 or an AMD FX-8370, along with either a GeForce GTX 960 or an R9 280x with 3 GB VRAM, and 8 GB RAM. Meanwhile, on recommended settings, you’ll need either an Intel Core i7-7700 or an AMD Ryzen 7 2700, along with either a GeForce GTX 1080 or a Radeon RX 580 with 4 GB VRAM, and 16 GB RAM.
