The Steam Game Festival will be returning today, offering more than 40 new demos for PC players to get their hands on. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley had a similar initiative back in December, helping to highlight various indie titles in the works. This time, the focus is on highlighting indies that missed out on this year’s Indie Megabooth, Day of the Devs and The MIX due to the postponement of GDC 2020.

The last Game Festival was pretty packed, featuring demos from Nightdive Studios’ System Shock, Pixpil’s Eastward, Thunder Lotus’s Spiritfarer and much more. Only a dozen games were highlighted and available for two days on Steam. Still, it was the first initiative of its kind and a good companion event to run with The Game Awards.

The Steam Game Festival: Spring Edition will start today at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET and ends on March 23rd, offering even more time to try out the games on hand. Considering there are several more games on offer, it’s probably for the best. Stay tuned for more details when the event goes live today.

When it comes to game trade shows, the big two most think about tend to be E3 and Tokyo Games Show, each hosted once a year in America and Japan, respectively. There is a third that tends to fly under the radar for a lot, and that’s Europe’s Gamescom. The trade show is held annually at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. This year, it looks like they are trying to change that by announcing that the show will have a live pre-show.

As you can see from the tweet below, Gamescom 2019 will kick off with Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley. Keighley is the annual host, and behind the scenes organizer, of The Game Awards, which has come to be held annually in December. Keighley is somewhat of a fixture within the gaming industry, and most likely his attachment will help to get more eyeballs on the European show.

Opening Night Live will be hold August 19th at 11 am PDT, while Gamescom itself starts the next day, August 20th and runs up to the 24th. Whether or not the live show will feature game reveals or trailers, or will simply be an overview of Gamescom, is not clear at this time.

It seems like quite a few games may be playable right after the event tonight.

In our report discussing the report about Ashen’s release date having been leaked yesterday, I speculated that the game might be a “shadow drop” at The Game Awards tonight—in that it will be shown off at the event, and then will be immediately available.

While we don’t have confirmation of this regarding Ashen just yet, Geoff Keighley, the producer of the event, has at least confirmed that there will be a ton of games at The Game Awards that will then proceed to go live right after the event is concluded, including Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (which suggests that the game may be one of the many that is shown off at the event).

“The thing we found is that people just want to go play games, and you’ll see this year that there are a ton of new games that are available inside of the show and afterwards,” Keighley said in an interview with Games Industry. “The Game Awards is going to be a great night, but there is going to be a ton to do online afterwards. Smash Bros. is coming out, there are going to be a ton of games that will be announced in the show that will go live that night.”

What can these games be? I assume Ashen will be one of those, and maybe some smaller indie titles, too? I dare say nothing on the level of The Champion’s Ballad—the expansion pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was shown at The Game Awards event last year for the first time, and then released right after—will be a part of this group, but I would love to be wrong.

Plus updates on already announced games, too.

Geoff Keighley had already teased the extent of new game announcements for the upcoming Game Awards show next month. However, now he has clarified on the extent of new stuff fans can look forward to if they tune in. Posting on Twitter, Keighley, who produces the show every year, said that there will be more than 10 new game announcements at the event, as well as updates on several already announced games too.

Of course, not all new games will be major, show stopping AAA productions. It’s likely that some, even most, of them are smaller scale indie games. However, even those can be exciting (plus we’re likely to get at least some new major AAA announcements, too). As for what games that are already announced, which could get some updates at the event, the sky’s the limit, though we know Nintendo has previously teased Metroid Prime 4 for the event. Plus, you can bet your bottom dollar Kojima will have some new cryptic trailer to share for Death Stranding, too

Whatever these games are, Keighley has promised to share some teases in the coming days, so hopefully things become clearer then. The Game Awards will air on December 6, and we will be covering it live, so make sure to tune in.

Tickets go on sale for the coveted awards ceremony on June 8th.

This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo hasn’t even started but The Game Awards 2018 already has a set date. Creator and host Geoff Keighley announced that the awards show would be returning on December 6th at 5:30 PM PT/8:30 PM ET. It will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California with tickets going on sale on June 8th.

The Game Awards 2018 has been through numerous iterations over the years but has since earned major success and fame. Last year’s show had more than 11.5 million viewers and saw such reveals as Death Stranding’s last trailer, the announcement of Bayonetta 3, and much more.

Given the competition this year with releases like Monster Hunter World, Celeste and so on (not to mention frequently updated games like Fortnite: Battle Royale, Path of Exile and Warframe), it should be interesting to see who’s recognized. As for E3 2018, it will start on June 12th to 14th with EA Play scheduled for June 9th.

Host and organizer Geoff Keighley says it "becomes a sport to guess which ones they'll be."

It’s a little more than a day before The Game Awards 2017 goes live and features numerous honours to the industry’s greatest games. Before that though, host and organizer Geoff Keighley has been promoting the announcements and reveals we can expect to see. We already know that 4A Games’ Metro Exodus will be appearing along with possible gameplay from Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding.

However, when speaking to GamesBeat, Keighley said that there would be two world premieres that will worlds that players have never seen before. His exact words were, “At least two games are brand-new game worlds that no one has ever seen before. It becomes a sport to guess which ones they will be.”

This makes us think that the two games are new IPs but what exactly classifies as “never before seen worlds”? Could that include a new world in a game we already know about or a brand new game entirely? That remains to be seen but we’re stoked all the same.

The Game Awards 2017 will be broadcast and streaming at 5:30 PM PST on December 7th.

The Game Awards are almost here- and for many, they are a more exciting event not for the actual awards, but for the new trailers and announcements that we always, inevitably end up getting at the show. Over the last few years, the prominence of the games showcased at the event has only gone up- everything, from Mass Effect Andromeda, Mass Effect 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, No Man’s Sky, Dark Souls 2, The Last of Us, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild got shown off at the event.

So, of course, with The Game Awards permanently established as a fixture of the gaming landscape at this point, all eyes are now on this year’s event- what might be shown off this time around? According to Geoff Keighley, who runs these things, the unexpected. That’s what he tweeted on Twitter, before following it up with another tweet pretty explicitly confirming that at least one unannounced game will be shown off at the event.

Which is interesting- what kinds of things might we see at the show? Death Stranding? The Last of Us Part 2? Bloodborne 2? Metroid Prime 4? Retro’s new IP? Something else entirely. I’m pretty excited to see what Santa Keighley has in store this year.

Also an option in recent poll by Geoff Keighley.

Project Scorpio has been the codename for Microsoft’s heavily upgraded Xbox One console for a good year now (longer if you followed the rumours leading up to its official announcement). While it’s expected that Microsoft will unveil the final name at its E3 2017 presser at 2 PM PDT today, it seems to have leaked already.

As per Wario64, the recent Best Buy Newsletter lists the console as simply being called the Xbox Scorpio. It’s not the strangest of all occurrences, especially with Geoff Keighley asking on a Twitter poll about the final name. One of the choices provided is – you guessed it – Xbox Scorpio.

Take this with a grain of salt for now. Anyway Microsoft’s conference is in a handful of hours so we’ll find out the truth eventually. What else do you hope to see from the E3 2017 press conference? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.

Analyst firm also weighs in on potential price.

Microsoft’s Project Scorpio will be the center piece of the company’s E3 2017 press conference with a release date, price, design reveal and hopefully a final name. Though the price has yet to be confirmed, Geoff Keighley says it will be $499.

The noted host and man behind The Game Awards said on Twitter that, “I can now say with confidence Project Scorpio is $499. Unless something changes today, that is what will be announced.”

Analyst firm IHS further predicted that the system will retail for $499/€499/£429. “The expected price differential between Project Scorpio and Xbox One S is high enough to reduce the impact of the new platform on the broader console audience.

“Project Scorpio is not the device to re-ignite Xbox One sales in continental Europe and to gain market share from Sony in key sales territories outside of USA and UK.”

Again, this isn’t official confirmation from Microsoft so stay tuned for the company’s press conference at 2 PM PST to learn more.

The Game Awards are happening on December 1st and as with last year, we can expect a number of high profile reveals. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Prey are already confirmed to be receiving new gameplay trailers but as per host and creator Geoff Keighley, there’s even more in store.

Keighley noted on Twitter that, “There are multiple world premieres that run 5+ minutes in length and feature all gameplay.” If you’re worried about nothing about pre-rendered, cinematic trailers…well, that might still be happening but Keighley seems confident enough that we’ll be seeing more gameplay.

He further noted that there were a few “surprises” in store. “You’ll just have to tune in, there are definitely some surprises and more stuff to announce this week.”

Perhaps whatever Gearbox Software is teasing? It wouldn’t be too far-fetched but either way, it’s worth tuning into The Game Awards later this Thursday. What are you hoping to see? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.
