The studio behind Marvel's Iron Man VR is now reportedly working on a VR game based on DC superhero Batman. Details, however, are sparse.

The studio behind Marvel’s Iron Man VR, Camouflaj, seems to be working on a new VR game based on a superhero. According to USA Federal Trade Commission court documents, caught by Janko Roettgers, the studio is working on a Batman VR game for Meta Quest VR headsets.

Neither Camouflaj nor parent company Meta have made any official announcements regarding the new game yet, and we have no idea what the gameplay for Batman VR will entail. Judging by Marvel’s Iron Man VR, which came to Meta Quest 2 this year after spending a couple of years exclusive to the PlayStation VR on the PS4, we can extrapolate a few ideas.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR has seen its fair share of commercial and critical success, and while it isn’t the most genre-defining game out there when it comes to highlighting the capabilities of VR experiences, it was still quite a fun game, especially if you’re a fan of the Marvel superhero.

Camouflaj’s Batman VR will likely be quite different from Batman Arkham VR, which acted as less of a full-fledged game and more of a small sandbox that explored a few ideas.

Camouflaj's PlayStation VR-exclusive Iron Man title is coming to the Quest 2 following the studio's acquisition by Meta.

Meta recently announced the acquisition of independent VR studio Camouflaj, alongside Armature Studio and Twisted Pixel. To go along with that announcement, the company has also confirmed that Camouflaj’s biggest title will also be making its way to the Meta Quest 2.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR launched for the PS4 as a PlayStation VR exclusive back in 2020, and saw its fair share of critical and commercial success. Though it’s not the most ground-breaking VR experience out there, it’s a fun ride that has appealed to fans of the property. Meta has now announced that the game is coming to Meta Quest 2, and will be launching in November.

There are no details on what changes are being made where the controls are concerned, or if we can expect any tweaks in terms of the visuals (or even the content), but a new cinematic trailer has been released. Check it out below.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR launches for Meta Quest 2 on November 3, and is currently available on PlayStation VR.

Camouflaj has released a new update for Marvel’s Iron Man VR, adding a number of new features and quality of life features. Along with New Game+, which lets players carry over their Research Points and unlocks, update 1.06 also brings Ultimate difficulty for those keen on the toughest of challenges. Four new weapons have also been added to the mix.

These include the Continuous Beam Repulsor that fires a beam for longer; the EM Charge Cannon that can unleash charged shots through shielded enemies; and the Micro Swarm which is good for crowd-control. Players can also unlock eight new Custom Armor Decos by completing challenges. One of these includes the Iron Patriot.

If that weren’t enough, the update also provides shorter loading times for missions set in Shanghai. You can also skip cinematics when replaying missions and also have the option to skip two specific missions. Completing them is still required for their Trophies though.

The superhero seems to do okay from himself out of the gate.

We still have quite a ways to go before virtual reality is refined enough to trickle into the mainstream, but there is still a lot of fun to bee had here. Probably one of the biggest pushes of the format has been coming through Sony with their PS VR headset, especially in the console space. They’ve done their best this generation to continue on with it with some interesting games. One of those is another collaboration with Marvel, with Marvel’s Iron Man VR, and it seems to have done pretty well.

As reported via GamesIndustry, the game managed to find a pretty strong debut on the UK charts in the week ending July 4th. The game wasn’t quite flying high enough to dethrone The Last of Us Part 2 at the top spot, but number 2 to probably the most anticipated game in years isn’t too shabby for the new VR release.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR is available now on PlayStation 4, exclusively for PlayStation VR. For everything you need to know about the game, we’ve got you covered through here.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR is finally out tomorrow and to celebrate the occasion, developer Camouflaj has put together a launch trailer. Check it out below to get a basic idea of what the game has to offer. Spoiler: You play as Iron Man.

This isn’t the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Iron Man though. An original story inspired by the comics, it sees Iron Man dealing with a hacktivist named Ghost. Using repurposed Stark Industries weapons, which Tony seemingly retired years ago, she’s wreaking havoc across Stark locations worldwide.

It’s up to Stark as Iron Man to combat Ghost, dealing with drones and other remote-controlled foes. Along with Repulsor blasts and missiles, Iron Man can also unleash the Unibeam from his chest for massive damage. Marvel’s Iron Man VR requires PlayStation VR, two PlayStation Move controllers and the PlayStation Eye to work. Stay tuned for more details after its releases tomorrow.

Check out all the hot new releases coming this month.

June has been fairly busy when it comes to gaming news and reveals but there haven’t been too many big releases. That’s set to change with not one but two big Switch exclusives, a high-profile PS4 title and much more coming in the next few weeks. Let’s take a look at 10 games of July 2020 that you should keep an eye on.

TrackMania

Serving as a reboot of TrackMania Nations, TrackMania closely follows the series’ formula. You’ll race across 25 different tracks, test out track and replay editors, and even enjoy user-made course. That’s all part of free access though. Standard Access, which costs $10 per year, grants access to the full track and replay editors, the “Track of the Day” selection and all “Track of the Day” and official campaign tracks. There’s also Club Access for $30 per year which provides even more exclusive content and league participation. Honestly, we’ll have to wait and see how the gameplay and content shakes out but the game is looking good. It’s out on July 1st for PC.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR

After a short delay, Marvel’s Iron Man VR is set to release on July 3rd, exclusively for PlayStation VR. Based off the Marvel Comics version of the Armored Avenger, the story sees Tony Stark battling the mysterious hacktivist Ghost who’s repurposed old Stark Industries weapons. Set in various locations around the world, players will fly, fight and shoot down drones with the Iron Man suit. Though movement takes some getting used to, Camouflaj’s commitment to immersion and translating the property faithfully to VR seems to have paid. With an 8 to 10 hours of gameplay, there should be enough here to keep fans entertained.

Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing In Disguise

Agent York returns but this isn’t a straightforward sequel to Hidetaka Suehiro’s cult classic. The story alternates between FBI agent Aaliyah Davis, who re-opens a once solved case in the present, and a younger Francis York Morgan who travels to Le Carré in New Orleans in the past to investigate some strange murders. Alternating between the two characters, the sequel still offers that signature brand of bizarre humor and horror. Plus, York is capable of skate-boarding and river-riding in the middle of solving murders. Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise releases on July 10th for Nintendo Switch.

CrossCode

Radical Fish Games’ excellent 16-bit style action RPG is finally coming to Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch on July 9th. CrossCode takes place in a virtual playspace called CrossWorlds with the protagonist Lea trying to recover her memory. The combat is completely real-time and focuses on fast-paced combos, aided by more than 90 Combat Arts. Each console version (along with PC) will have a unique mini dungeon, boss fight and miniquest, all culminating in “something” down the line. Whatever it may be, this is an old-school tribute you shouldn’t miss.

F1 2020

The next iteration in Codemasters’ yearly F1 franchise brings Career Mode revamps, My Team mode, new tracks and much more. My Team is especially interesting since it allows for creating and managing a team, bringing in staff, hiring another driver and partaking in races to keep things afloat. As for Career Mode, players can now adjust the duration of a season, opting for either 10 races or going with the full 22 race stint. With 22 circuits and 20 drivers, F1 2020 will release on July 10th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia.

NASCAR Heat 5

Though probably not the first racing sim to come to mind, the NASCAR Heat series has nonetheless been chugging along for the past few years, garnering decent critical acclaim. As the latest iteration for PC, Xbox One and PS4, NASCAR Heat 5 promises re-imagined gameplay, changes to pit stops and DNF for races, and a new track-testing mode for single-player. Otherwise, expect a faithful take on the 2020 NASCAR season (such as it is) when the game releases on July 10th.

Death Stranding (PC)

Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding is finally coming to PC with support for higher frame rates, Ultra-widescreen support and other graphical improvements. The story of Sam “Porter” Bridges as he treks across the United Cities of America, fending off the BTs in an attempt to reconnect the country, is still every bit as weird as last year. Except now we can experience it in 60 frames per second and 1080p resolution. The gameplay is unorthodox yet familiar with systems upon systems to manage and that’s not even getting into the whole Strand multiplayer. Nonetheless, Death Stranding should be worth checking out for PC players when it launches on July 14th.

Ghost of Tsushima

When the Mongol invasion hits Tsushima and wipes out Jin Sakai’s clan, he embarks on a quest to rid the island of the invaders. Hack and slash combat with various stances, parries and deathblows are expected but Jin can also play the Ghost, sneaking into camps and using subterfuge to stealthily assassinate foes. Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima is being touted as the developer’s biggest game till date with a variety of lush environments to explore, foes to battle and sidestories to experience. This is in addition to duels against powerful swordsmen and a black and white filter that channels classic samurai cinema. Ghost of Tsushima is out on July 17th for PS4.

Paper Mario: The Origami King

Perhaps the bigger Switch title to look forward to in July is Paper Mario: The Origami King. As the long-awaited follow-up in the series, the story sees the Mushroom Kingdom under siege by King Olly. Everything is turned into Origami and it’s up to Mario, Bowser and Olivia to push back against the assault. Along with a variety of puzzles and a stellar origami aesthetic dotting the world – which is exploited by the new 1000-Fold Arms that can tear off parts of the environment – combat is based off of a ring system. Players will need to line up enemies within different sections and then attack. In terms of ridiculous epicness, Paper Mario: The Origami King is shaping up well en route to its July 17th release.

Destroy All Humans!

It wouldn’t be a line-up of games without some remaster or remake coming out. To that end, Pandemic Studios’ Destroy All Humans!, which is being remade by Black Forest Games, warrants attention. It focuses on an alien named Crypto who’s come to Earth in pursuit of human DNA. Along with gliding, dashing and shooting humans, Crypto also has a flying saucer to spray laser death on unsuspecting folk. The remake features motion capture, updated character models and cutscenes, and the previously cut “Lost Mission of Area 41”. Time will tell just how good it feels but if the remake captures the original’s essence of hilarity and action, it should be a blast. Destroy All Humans! Releases on July 28th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR releases in just a little over a week, and its promise of delivering a full-fledged Iron Man game – and one that is exclusive to VR, no less – is one that has got many people anticipating its release fervently. In the lead up to its launch, Sony have been releasing new behind-the-scenes videos in which developers Camouflaj have talked about various things, from the process of adapting the insanely popular property to why they felt it was a perfect fit for VR. In another new behind-the-scenes video, they showcase some interesting parts of the game that will surely appeal to the Iron Man fan in you.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR will allow players to chill in Tony Stark’s garage in his Malibu mansion, and engage in various side activities, such as checking out his toys, listening to the radio, working out, and more. The biggest attraction here, however, will be the ability to tinker with Tony’s Iron Man suit, which is where the game’s upgrading and customization mechanics will come in.

Take a look at the video below to check out new gameplay footage of Tony’s garage, and to hear the developers talking about that and dropping some new details.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR is out exclusively for PlayStation VR on July 3.
Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming PS VR exclusive.

Of the several PS4 exclusives releasing this year, Marvel’s Iron Man VR from Camouflaj is perhaps the odd one out. It’s a VR title and, unlike what initial trailers might have conveyed, is a full-fledged experience and not a rail shooter. Significant effort has also been made to ensure that the player – wait for it – feels like Iron Man. With the game having gone gold and set to release on July 3rd, let’s take a look at ten things you should know before picking it up.

Based on Marvel Comics’ Iron Man

Iron Man has been a pretty dominant part of global culture for the past decade or so, especially with the box office success of Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel’s Iron Man VR, however, won’t have any ties to the movies. It’s based on the comic book version of the character, somewhat like Square Enix’s upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. Which Tony Stark will we be getting though? The more egotistical, destructive persona from Superior Iron Man? The AI techno-ghost? Thankfully, this seems to be the regular old witty and charming Tony Stark that we know and love and who totally won’t betray everyone when the Civil War eventually rolls around. Hopefully.

Original Story

Though this Iron Man is based off of the Marvel Comics version, the story itself is completely original. It follows Tony Stark after he’s stopped creating weapons and established himself as Iron Man. However, the past soon catches up to him when hacktivist Ghost appears and starts using his old weapons against him. For some reason, Ghost is attacking different Stark office locations worldwide and it’s up to Iron Man to stop her. As per the official Marvel.com listing for the game, Stark will encounter “iconic allies and super villains”. We’ve already seen Nick Fury and the iconic SHIELD helicarrier but expect more familiar faces to pop up throughout the story.

PlayStation VR Exclusive

What separates Marvel’s Iron Man VR from most other titles with the Armored Avenger? If the name didn’t give it away, it’s only playable in VR. Furthermore it’s exclusive to the PlayStation VR on PS4 with Sony publishing the title. There’s no Oculus Quest or HTC Vive version (at least none in the works or planned currently) – if you want to play the game, you need PlayStation VR (along with the PlayStation Camera and two PlayStation Move controllers, of course).

How Flying Works

Flying here works more or less like how the movies portray it. You hold the Move controllers in the designated position (placing them behind you will push forward, while holding them down while send you up) and press the corresponding buttons to activate thrust. Double-trapping the buttons activates the boost for speedier travel. It’s not too difficult to get into but based on demo impressions, it can take some time to make finer movements and change one’s elevation. You’ll also need to get used to alternating between flying and combat, though there is a button for hovering in place while you fight.

Combat

Combat is a lot more straightforward than flying, thankfully. Pressing the Move button will fire a blast from Iron Man’s Repulsors to shoot down foes. You can also simply punch enemies by actually swinging your fist. This will cause Iron Man to move towards the closest foe and hit them with a lock on melee attack. You can also unleash the Unibeam after it’s charged by holding Triangle on the left Move controller and Square on the right Move controller. Nothing too crazy or complicated – it’s easy enough to get into and there’s enough room to experiment as you fly around, shooting down foes and punching them in the gob. The overall flow of combat has been purposed with VR in mind so you’ll be doing things that Iron Man would actually do using motion controls as opposed to pressing buttons.

Varied Objectives in Missions

After completing the tutorial mission in the demo, you’ll play the first story mission which takes place in Stark’s private jet. Things quickly take a turn though as drones suddenly attack. You’ll don the Iron Man suit to fight them off but there’s more than just flying and shooting involved. The plane will suffer damage and you’ll need to extinguish its flames. A wing will need to be repaired, which necessitates physically pulling a metal bar off of a flap. The landing gear also needs to be freed, which is done by positioning yourself under the plane and physically pulling open the doors. The mission also ends with Tony flying up to the landing gear and saving Pepper Potts. There’s a nice bit variety and it should be interesting to see what later missions serve up (especially the one involving an attack on SHIELD’s helicarrier).

Optional Missions

Along with main missions, Iron Man VR also offers optional missions like the Flight Challenge and Advanced Combat Challenge seen in the demo. The combat challenges are especially intriguing because they feature larger environments and provide “more breadth” to the experience as per game director Ryan Payton in an interview with IGN. They’re also useful for unlocking Research Points which go into upgrading Stark’s suit.

New Abilities and Armor Upgrades

Tony Stark’s garage is the area for applying upgrades and receiving new abilities courtesy of Research Points. It can be explored in first person mode, thus allowing you to get a better look at the Iron Man suit itself. You can upgrade certain elements to “go faster” as per Payton (perhaps resulting in faster flight speeds and boosting for longer periods of time) and also upgrade the heads-up display. It’s also possible to unlock some new weapons like missiles, which are equipped by moving the controller down during combat.

No Button Remapping (For Now)

Along with the visual quality – which isn’t the sharpest – one worrying thing about the game is button remapping or at least the lack of it. It’s currently not possible to remap buttons in the demo. This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem but Iron Man VR’s set-up is fairly unique. So if you’re used to certain buttons corresponding to certain actions, you’ll need some time to adjust. While Camouflaj could patch this on launch day or shortly after, it’s still worth trying out the demo to see how intuitive the current control set-up is.

Alternate Iron Man Skins

It wouldn’t be an Iron Man game without alternate armor skins. Completing the demo will provide the Molten Lava Armor Deco skin for use in the full game. Pre-ordering any version will provide the Original Armor, Vintage, Centurion and Ultraviolet skins for free while the Digital Deluxe Edition offers the Golden Avenger, Black Centurion, Sun Stinger and Stealth Armor skins. It’s not clear if there are many alternate skins, color schemes or additional suits to unlock in-game (a la Spider-Man) but we can certainly hope that’s the case.

"The last thing we want players to do is to think about the hardware," says Camouflaj founder Ryan Payton.

The idea of making a VR-exclusive full-fledged game that fulfils the power fantasy of literally flying around like Iron Man is one that developers Camouflaj are going all-in on, and the upcoming Marvel’s Iron Man VR has certainly looked like a promising prospect. However, VR by its very nature has limitations, most that pertain to the hardware itself, so how have the developers of the upcoming title reconciled that with their desire to make the game they want to make?

In an interview with 8bitisland, Camouflaj founder Ryan Payton talked about the same. Acknowledging that limitations of the hardware, Payton said that Camouflaj have employed some “interesting things” that go on behind the scenes to make sure that the experience is as seamless as possible. According to Payton, Camouflaj’s goal with the game has been to ensure that people aren’t thinking about the hardware itself as much as they’re thinking of being Iron Man.

“There are limitations with technology, and so we do some interesting things to make it as seamless an experience as possible,” he said. “Most of this is under the hood though; the last thing we want players to do is to think about the hardware, we want them to think about being Iron Man. That’s been one of her main development goals from the very beginning.”

“I don’t think there’s a better pairing with the a Marvel superhero of the great aspects of VR than with Iron Man,” he added.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR recently wrapped up development, and will be out for PlayStation VR on July 3. Before then, you can try out the game’s free demo, which is available now on the PlayStation Store.
