Developer Turtle Rock Studios has confirmed that its upcoming co-op zombie shooter Back 4 Blood will always require players to be online. It should bed noted that Back 4 Blood‘s campaign can be played solo with three AI teammates, there will not be anyway to do so offline, at least not at launch.

The confirmation came via the company’s Twitch account. When asked if Back 4 Blood could be played offline, Turtle Rock confirmed it was not possible. “We’re looking into ways we could support offline for the future but you will need an internet connection to play at launch,” the studio said.

The game will get a pair betas come August, so players will be able to test out the game and see if this is something they’re okay with before the game launches. Turtle Rock showed more of the game during E3, talked about ADS and split-screen co-op, and paid PvP and PvE content. Back 4 Blood will release on October 12 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It will also launch Day 1 on Game Pass.

Everything you need to know about Call of Duty: Black Ops III

Call of Duty: Black Ops III is an upcoming first person shooter that serves as the sequel to 2012’s popular shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops II. It is the fourth game in the established Black Ops continuity, which officially first started with Call of Duty: World at War in 2008.

The game is being developed by Treyarch which, along with Black Ops, has also worked on Call of Duty: World at War. Activision will be publishing.

Running on a “heavily modified” build of the Black Ops II engine, the game is currently being developed exclusively for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are still unconfirmed and Activision has at least hinted that a Wii U version could be in development.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III is currently slated to release on November 6th 2015.

Development

The official announcement and reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops III was accomplished by way of a social media driven advertising campaign that quickly went viral and was the fascination of the Call of Duty market for some time. In the multiplayer portion of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, a series of images started to appear scattered throughout the stages.

The images came tagged with QR code for the social media image and video sharing app, SnapChat. These were added into the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 builds of the game, but didn’t make it into the PC build.

Scanning the code would see the Call of Duty SnapChat account being added to your friend list which then would allow you access to a brief video which was quickly, and correctly, assumed to be a teaser for Black Ops III.

Following these teaser “Snaps”, the first official reveal trailer for the game came on April 26th of 2015. Following this teaser/reveal trailer, more gameplay information came to light. This included the return of the much loved Zombies mode.

Also confirmed was early Beta access for gamers if they went out and pre-ordered the game for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, at this time PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U builds haven’t been confirmed.

The Black Ops series has been confirmed to be the most played game in the Call of Duty series history. Speaking about this at a Q1 earnings call for 2015, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has said, “Nearly 100 million players have played Black Ops and Black Ops 2, making Black Ops the most played series in Call of Duty history.”

In regards to supported frame rates and resolutions, it has been confirmed that the PlayStation 4 build will run at 60fps at 1080p, the PC build can scale to 4K at 60fps (not confirmed to be uncapped) and the Xbox One build is yet to have its final resolution and frame rate disclosed.

Also confirmed to be returning to the game is the option to play as a female character. Speaking about this, Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia has said, “It’s not just a female head on a male body. It’s a different set of animations for the entire game.”

Story

Being a sequel to Black Ops II, this game is set in the same continuity and takes place some forty years after the events of Black Ops II. You’ll still be in control of a team of Black Ops soldiers as with previous games.

During this time both the scientific and technological frontiers have moved forward at an alarming pace, resulting in unprecedented growth in their respective industries.

As these technological advances carry over into the world, the human populace start to integrate robotics into their lives. This inherently was given military applications, thus bringing the super-soldier into being. All this unprecedented growth brings people to speculate about the possibility of an impending robot uprising.

Gameplay

At its core, the gameplay of Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the same as previous entries into the Call of Duty franchise, meaning that it’s still a first person shooter with customisable weapon load-outs and classes in multiplayer.

That being said, there are a number of new features that will alter how players move and shoot in the game alongside some returning features.

The game is going to feature an all new movement mechanic that has been described as being a “momentum-based chained-movement system,” which would most likely be similar to that which is found in Titanfall thanks to the inclusion of boosted jumps, assisted sliding and mantling (ledge climbing) whilst remaining in control of your weapon.

Also included in the multiplayer suite, which is the most popular portion of any modern Call of Duty game, is a new class system that refers to characters as Specialists. This Specialist upgrade system will allow players to highly customize and tailor their personal characters to their liking. It also offers weapon and character XP, and branching upgrade paths. This is likely put in place to help make characters and players feel more unique and suited to individual players tastes. This is likely going to be coupled with the Gunsmith and Camouflage Designer features.

The now popular Zombies mode will be returning in Black Ops III but in its own dedicated narrative that is separate from the main story campaign. Call of Duty: Black Ops III will also be the first game in the series to support four player co-op for its story campaign.

At this time, a character roster hasn’t been revealed for Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

The game is currently being developed for Nintendo’s Wii U, OS X, Linux, Microsoft Windows and the PlayStation 4. At the time of writing the game is expected to be published by Pencil Test Studios. There’s no exact release date for Armikrog at this time, but it’s expected that the game will arrive in Q1 of 2015. The game will not see a retail release and will instead be made available through your respective platforms digital stores.

Armikrog is a modern game with old school sensibilities that is being developed by using classical sculpting of models, building sets for stages of gameplay to take place in as well as the fabrication of Clay characters and puppets.
The game will also make use of the fading art of stop motion animation to help obtain a unique look and feel that hasn’t been seen in games very much recently.

Doug TenNapel, the creator of the popular character Earthworm Jim who has appeared in games and cartoons, teamed up with the founders of Pencil Test Studios Mike Dietz and Ed Schofield, whom he had previously worked with on Earthworm Jim and The Neverhood.

The soundtrack for Armikrog is being composed by Terry Scott Taylor who had composed the music for The Neverhood. The games vocal talent comes from Jon Heder of Napoleon Dynamite, Rob Paulsen of Pinky and the Brain and Michael J. Nelson of Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

Armikrog itself is partly being developed as a spiritual successor to The Neverhood which was released in 1996 by The Neverhood, Inc and published by the now defunct Dreamworks Interactive, more recently known as Danger Close Games whose doors closed in 2013. Like Armikrog, it too was a clay styled game that was a point and click adventure.

The game came to fruition by way of a successful Kickstarter campaign with an asking price of $900,000, there was also a stretch goal put in place at the $950,000 mark that would see a Wii U port of the game be developed. As of June 27th of 2013, the game was successfully funded and the Wii U stretch goal reached.

Story

The game’s story is focused on the space adventurer Tommynaut. Tommynaut experiences difficulties and crash lands on a strange alien world where he ends up being locked in an odd fortress that’s called Armikrog. He’s imprisoned in the fortress with Beak-Beak, his blind talking dog.

Gameplay

In the video above, in the Development portion of this wiki, you can see a work in progress build of the game which shows off the beautifully executed clay based animations and lovely environments, but the video does little to demonstrate gameplay in any meaningful way.

What we do know is that the game is a point and click adventure game so it may be comparable to games like Kings Quest and/or other adventure games such as Abe’s Odyssey.

Characters

Tommynaught is the game’s main protagonist and is a space faring adventurer that has somehow gotten himself imprisoned on an alien world in the fortress of Armikrog.

Beak-Beak is Tommynaught’s loyal companion, he also just so happens to be a blind dog that’s capable of speech.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.

Galactic Civilizations III (often abbreviated to Gal Civ) is an upcoming sequel and 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) turn based strategy PC video game.

The game is currently being developed by the respected development and publishing studio Stardock who previously developed prior Galactic Civilizations games.

The game is coming exclusively to the PC and is targeting a April 2015 where it will be made available via digital download. The game isn’t expected to get a release at retail and nor is it likely to cross platforms.

Development

Galactic Civilizations III was first announced to be in development when Stardock announced that the game, which would be serving as a sequel to 2006’s Galactic Civilizations, was in production and was actively being developed.

The game was set to be released in April 2015, but it has already been released on PC via Steam in the form of a pre-release build which was used to gather information and feedback from the gaming community. This pre-release build was launched on March of 2014 on Steam where it has since gathered 245 reviews which have resulted in the game being tagged as “Mostly Positive”.

Although the developers are targeting an April 2015 release date, they are avoiding giving any specific date. Talking about the games release on the official Gal Civ III site, the developers have said “We’re targeting an April 2015 release date. That gives us six months of beta testing via Early Access, which we have found to be a good amount of time to work out any kinks and nail down both the balance and technical sides of the game.”

The pre-release build of the game does reflect one aspect of the final build which is that the game requires, and will only run, on a 64-bit PC. Those running an operating system that isn’t Microsoft Windows on a 64 bit PC simply cannot play the game.

Speaking directly via the games official website, the developers have addressed the requirements for the game, saying “It will require a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or 8 along with a DirectX 10 or 11 compatible video card. There will be no 32-bit version. Most PC gamers in 2015 have this kind of hardware, and it allows us to create the best game possible for the majority of our customers.”…”We want Galactic Civilizations III, and future expansions, to be able to handle extremely large galaxies with a very high resolution graphics and large data sets for the computer AI to make use of. It allows us to design the best game possible without being constrained by the limitations of older hardware.”

When answering why the game doesn’t make use of DirectX 9, the developers said, “DirectX 10 and 11 allow us to easily have multiple threads touch the graphics card simultaneously. This results in much higher-quality font rendering, HDR lighting, makes it a lot easier to support advanced UI scaling, and makes the game less CPU-bound which will be important for giving the artificial intelligence engine more processing power to execute VCSS’s (Very Complex Strategy Simulations). As with the decision to be 64-bit, it allows us to create a better game for the majority of players that already meet the requirements.”

Story

This game is a sequel to 2006’s Galactic Civilizations II and takes place 10 years later where “The Drengin Empire reigns supreme”. The story in Galactic Civilizations is exceptionally extensive and has many small nuances that are only discovered by gameplay. The player can effectively craft their own story for the game, much in the same way you would do in a Sid Meier’s Civilisation Game.

Gameplay

Galactic Civilizations III is a 4X Hex Turn Based Strategy game. The game is also a considerable improvement over its predecessor and as the developers themselves say, “There are too many additions to list here” in regards to the new gameplay elements. But the gameplay is, fundamentally speaking, the same as it was before.

The player takes control of their units in a turn based, hex based universe that sprawls out in every direction. Given that the game has been built from the ground up on all new technology, the player can now build “the ship of your dreams”.

Planetary management and overall diplomacy have been revamped to allow for a better and deeper experience. The overall sense of depth in the universe map has also been reworked to give the player a greater sense of scale and control. The game is also set to feature a new species of Aliens, The Iridium are an all new playable species that are effectively “space-faring super capitalists”.

Characters

Players in Gal Civ III don’t take control of any one particular character, rather they represent one of many species. They are:

The Terran Alliance
The Yor Collective
The Drengin Empire
The Altarian Republic
The Drath Legion
The Torian Confederation
The Arcean Empire
The Dominion of Korx
The Iconian Refuge
The Thalan Empire
The Korath Clan
The Krynn Consulate

The game also features a number of minor races, but they take very much a back seat from a player perspective. The player may form alliances with the minor races as the progress further into the game.

Everything you need to know about Hyper Light Drifter

Hyper Light Drifter is an upcoming 2D action role playing video game that is being developed by Heart Machine. Heart Machine haven’t had any previous games to their credit that we could find, though they describe themselves by saying “We are a group simply making a game. We all bring something different to the table.”

The game, which will be made available exclusively by way of digital download, is being developed for a very broad system launch that expands across multiple computer platforms and console platforms, though in that regard it is exclusively 8th generation focused except from one exception.

Set to release on a worldwide scale at some time early in 2015, Hyper Light Drifter is set to release on Microsoft Windows and Linux supported PC’s, OS X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Sony’s PS Vita, Wii U and finally, the Ouya. Whilst not officially confirmed, the game is possibly going to be self published.

Development

Hyper Light Drifter is yet another success story from the Kickstarter Campaign boom that has swept this generation of creative minds. The game was born from the mind of one Alex Preston who yearned to develop something unique and striking with regards to its visual and gameplay style.

The game is designed in a way that combat with enemies must be approached with a degree of strategy, thus reflecting The Legend of Zelda, players must manage an Inventory in an isometric perspective, thus reflecting Diablo.

His drive to create a game that combines things he loved was something that he realised was a possibility in 2013 when he set out to create a game for Windows and Linux supported PC’s and OSX. He took to Kickstarter with his plan for the game and asked for $27,000 to complete the game. He did this with the help of programmer Beau Blyth and Rich Vreeland, both of which are previous content creators on Samurai Gunn and Fez respectively. With these two team members on board he formed the basis of the team that would grow to become Heart Machine.

Within 24 hours, the campaign was a success and within a matter of days following this the game has passed the $100,000 and following this success, a number of stretch goals were put in place to encourage further funding that would help bring the game to other platforms as well as improve the quality of the end product. The reason these platforms were encouraged as stretch goals was that Alex Preston would have felt it dishonest to over promise on the premise of his plan.

The development team has since expanded considerably to include a variety of team members and because the scope of the game has grown considerably, the title has been delayed until some time early in 2015.

Story

Whilst specific plot details are vague at best, there are some plot elements of the game that we do know by way of interviews with team members.
The Drifter is a member of a people that venture into zones that cannot be inhabited by other peoples. They do so to find rare and lost technologies that they both sell, and make use of.

The drifter that the player controls is suffering from some sort of sickness that they are seeking to cure.

Gameplay

Gameplay in Hyper Light Drifter is from a top down perspective and makes a heavy use of platforming through stages (in the preview build) that are navigated by way of foot and (what I assume to be) short range teleportation.

Players tackle a variety of enemies with an array of equipment that range from direct fire projectiles to indirect fire spread projectiles and swords. Difficulty scales as both the amount of numbers of the enemy grows and their skill level grows. When the Drifter encounters powerful foes, he can rely on his most powerful weapons which are powered by potent, yet rare batteries that are found throughout his travels.

Characters

Thus far, one official character has been revealed and that is the Drifter.

Drifter – The Drifter is a member of a people that venture into zones that cannot be inhabited by other peoples. They do so to find rare and lost technologies that they both sell, and make use of.

The future has been foretold, and it is modded.

Dragon Age Inquisition is a fine entry into the much loved Dragon Age series which has, except Dragon Age II, proven to be one of the most impressive and genuinely enthralling gameplay experiences that gamers can get their hands on across both the 7th and 8th generation hardware.

But as usual, the PC gaming community has come out swinging, saying “we can make this better”, as they oft do. Mods are a big part of PC gaming and they do sometimes hugely improve upon the designers vision which is often limited to what the big-wigs of the company want to see, whether you want to admit it or not.

Thus, modding has began for Dragon Age Inquisition, starting off with texture extraction and improvement that so far, from what I’ve gathered, seems focused on player characters for the time being. This follows on the coat tails of the cheat engine tweak that lets players make use of the tactical cam that was so popular in Dragon Age Origins. You can check out the progress here.

Mighty No. 9 is an upcoming and massively anticipated traditional action adventure platforming video game that is currently in development by Comcept, founded by the highly respected and influential game producer and illustrator, Keiji Inafune, and Inti Creates, a video game development company formed by ex-Capcom staff.

The game, which is running on a modified build of the Unreal Engine 3 is set for a very wide and varied release, hitting multiple platforms across 7th and 8th generation technology. Set to release worldwide in April of 2015, Mighty No. 9 is slated to launch on Linux, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 3DS, OS X, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

There won’t be a retail release of the game and it will only be available via digital download via the applicable online stores.

Development

The ongoing development of Mighty No. 9 has been an interesting affair to follow with changes being made as recent as a month ago with subtle shifts in palette and design to characters to distance themselves from the original inspirational source material. The game was first announced to the public during a conference at the 2013 Penny Arcade Expo.

The game is very similar to the Mega man series of games, being set on a 2D plane with side scrolling action platforming mechanic. With the game being so clearly Mega Man influenced, but not bearing the title, die-hard fans of the series (or supporters of Inafune in general) are calling the game Mega Man’s Spiritual Successor.

Rather than taking the route of typical game production and seeking funding for the project from an interested party or publisher, the decision was made (before the announcement) to seek funding by way of crowd sourcing via Kickstarter.

The games Kickstarter Campaign began on August 31st of 2013 with a minimum requirement of $900,000 (US Dollars), the project exceeded expectations and had cleared it’s minimum goal within 2days, making the project a success by September 2nd 2013.

Keiji Inafune is without a doubt best known for his work on the iconic Mega Man series of video games which is often regarded as one of the best action platformer games ever created and is still looked at as a benchmark for solid game design. Inafune had a falling out of sorts with Capcom and this saw the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, a game which was to be heavily based of fan input. Trying to ensure that the game was based on design aspects that the player community wanted, Inafune said that he wanted to make the project that fans could get involved with. This included voting on character designs and colour palettes etc

As of September 30th 2013, the renowned composer Takashi Tatesishi (who is also an ex-employee of Capcom) that worked on Mega Man 2, alongside Inafune who was serving as an artist, was announced to have signed onto and joined the development team. He was joined by other ex-Capcom staff that would help produce the music and sound for the game.

The crowd funding campaign which had proven to be a massive success came to a close on October 1st of 2013 having raised $3,845,170 in total. This made it one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns to have ever been launched and funded, ranking number 6, but having since fallen as of July 2014. Total contributions brought the entire funding total to $4,046,579, the extra $201,409 came by way of PayPal pledges.

Bonus content was announced for the game that expands it in the same way DLC would, these were introduced as stretch goals and range from full English Voice acting for the game to Additional Stages that would introduce other characters.

Story

Once again, the game is quite clearly a heavily Mega Man inspired game with both plot elements and character design ideas being used.
Mighty No. 9 is an Android named Beck who was created and designed to be a combat robot as part of a unity called the Mighty Number, of which Beck is the 9th. An undisclosed incident involving a computer virus occurs, presumably an attack, and afflicts his fellow Mighty Number members and other robots globally with the will to do wrong.

Beck must combat these robots and Mighty Number members as the player seeks out the villain that threatens all life. This is done with Becks partner named Call. (Beck and Call). The main story involves three scientists, Dr White, Dr Blackwell and Dr sanda, all three are creators and inventors that have some link to the Mighty Number, Beck or Call.

Gameplay

Based on a 2D plane but making use of both 2D and 3D art assets, the game tends to focus on the platforming elements of the game which are worked into the level design which adds designed difficulty rather than arbitrary difficulty like in the Mega Man series. Similar to Mega Man, the player has access to ranged weaponry that is used to combat enemies. Players can, as standard, run and jump to progress through the game, but defeating enemies and boss characters will yield new weapons and new abilities.

Most similar to Mega Man X, the game will start with an intro stage that will probably teach the player the games mechanics through gameplay. Upon completing this stage (which is likely to set up the games plot) the player is then free to choose one of eight stages in any order. At the end of these stages, a member of the Mighty Number will face Beck as an end stage boss. Once the final stages are unlocked, the player can move forward in an attempt to complete the game.

Characters

Beck – Beck is the main protagonist in Mighty No. 9 and serves as the players character. The 9th robot created as part of the Mighty Number unit of combat robots, 9 was originally grey-blue-black in colour, but has since been changed to “dazzling white” to avoid any stark Mega Man comparisons.

Call – Call is a protagonist in the game that was made by Dr Sanda and is friends with Dr White. Call is Becks trusted partner and her design was chosen by the community following a poll.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.

A popular classic returns to the game.

Like every other game in existence, no game is perfect. But some of them are very damn good. Dragon Age Inquisition is a good example of a damn good modern game that, despite it’s bugs and glitches, has proven to be largely successful from a person to person point of view. Reviews are raging and gamers are gathering their party and setting out to tackle forces of evil once more.

But there’s something missing. Something that made Dragon Age Origins one of the best fantasy RPG’s of the last generation: The Isometric Camera. The pulled back camera allowed players to take in the entirety of the scene in just a simple glance, allowing for a much more in-depth tactical approach to combat.

One gamer, going by the name of “olegbl”, successfully reinstated the Isometric Camera by using the popular game cheat device, CheatEngine. Whilst not exactly a permanent mod, it does serve a purpose for those of you that are dedicated to the game. You can find the Engine, and the instructions here and here respectively.

A patch should be on the way soon

Dragon Age Inquisition, a game that has been in development for years has launched to a somewhat deserved warm welcome, but it too is victim to frame rate drops, crashes, glitches and more. The PC gaming community, being as vocal as it is for better or for worse, Bioware has been bombarded with people expressing their concerns.

However Bioware’s Mark Darrah has responded. He said, “With the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition, we’ve been hearing a number of concerns from members of our PC community.” He then lists the issues as driver support, hitching and frame rate issues in cutscenes, feedback on the keyboard and mouse controls (though I personally think this game should be played with a controller) and general UI optimizations for PC.

He then assured that “player experience is a top priority” for them. So make of that what you will. Additionally he also confirmed that they are working with Nvidia to fix any driver issues. For players who are facing issues with DirectX and have AMD cards, should download the AMD Catalyst 14.11.2 beta driver.
