Playground Games' open-world racer debuted on Sony's console last April and has seemingly become another multiplatform success.

Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5 was the latest first-party title from Xbox to make the jump to PlayStation 5 last April. Though Microsoft didn’t provide any sales figures, Harrison B., game designer at Turn 10 Studios, revealed on his LinkedIn profile that two million copies were sold in the first month.

As discovered by Timur222 on Twitter, the profile said, “Created cross-platform feature designs enabling Forza Horizon (PS5, 2025) to sell 2 million units in one month on PS5 alone.” It’s been updated to remove the sales figures, and while not officially confirmed, the figures are in line with initial estimates. Analyst firm Alinea Analytics reported 1.4 million sales in its launch week, which is impressive considering it was on sale for only two days in April.

Forza Horizon 5 is also available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC alongside Game Pass. The future of the franchise could very well lay in a new title, potentially to be announced next year. Regardless, a Forza Horizon sequel seems more likely than a new Forza Motorsport. Turn 10 Studios recently saw heavy layoffs, allegedly leading to the cancellation of the Motorsport series.

Issues causing player progression to reset in Weekly Challenges and certain Accolades to not unlock have also been addressed.

Fresh off a successful launch on PS5, Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5 has received a new update. It contains stability and performance fixes for all platforms, including a fix for Weekly Challenges that caused player progression to reset.

Accolades like “Night Time Funk” and “Eterna-lly Yours” also weren’t unlocking, but these have since been fixed. For PS5 players specifically, several issues with Logitech steering wheels have also been addressed. For instance, the Logitech G Pro Wheel should now allow for mapping the dials and GL/GR buttons.

You should also be able to map the Logitech G92/920 and G923 wheels’ dial and +/- buttons. And for those who faced issues with other wheels and pedals where R2/L2 for gas/brake couldn’t be remapped, this has also been fixed.

Check out the full patch notes below for more details. Forza Horizon 5 is available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PC. You can read our review for the PS5 version here, which we gave a 10 out of 10.

No matter where you play, Forza Horizon 5 delivers on all fronts.

Microsoft has released a good number of first-party titles for the PlayStation 5 by now, but the one they released recently might arguably be the biggest one yet. Forza Horizon 5 is now officially available on Sony’s console, and it’s an absolute stunner. What was once thought impossible – seeing Microsoft’s flagship racing franchise on a PlayStation system, is now a reality, and it couldn’t have arrived in better form.

Set in a vibrant and sprawling open-world version of Mexico, Forza Horizon 5 offers a breathtaking driving experience that has been widely praised since its original launch. On PS5, players are not only getting the massive base game but also its two major expansions: Rally Adventure and Hot Wheels. Both add substantial new content, offering players more off-road challenges and crazy, rollercoaster-like racing tracks respectively.

If that wasn’t enough, the PS5 version also benefits from the Horizon Realms update, which brings with it a curated collection of the community’s favorite “Evolving Worlds” from past seasons, alongside some brand-new surprises. This ensures that newcomers on PS5 will be stepping into one of the richest and most polished versions of the game to date.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X Comparison

There is very little to choose here. The base PS5 version and the Xbox Series X build are literally similar to each other. Both versions feature two modes: Performance and Quality.

The performance mods on the PS5 targets 60 frames per second with a dynamic 4K resolution, just like the Xbox Series X version. This is our favorite way to experience Forza Horizon 5 on the PS5. Sleek 60fps with excellent visuals will likely be the best way to play for most PS5 owners out there.

For those who prefer higher image quality but with a hit to the frame rate, can opt for the quality mode. This mode delivers 30fps with a native 4K resolution with super image quality and sharpness.

The developers have done a phenomenal job of keeping the PS5 version tied up so closely to the Xbox Series X build. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either.

PS5 Pro vs PS5 Head to Head Comparison

The PS5 Pro version is where things are shifted a notch above the base console versions. Like its older counterpart, the PS5 Pro version also includes two modes (Quality and Performance modes) but there are some noticeable improvements over the base PS5 version.

To begin with, the Performance mode in PS5 Pro runs at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, giving it an immediate upper hand in image quality over the base PS5. The Quality mode is similar to the PS5’s mode, but it also adds ray tracing to the mix. Furthermore, the PS5 Pro version also features higher resolution textures and even more vegetation in the game’s world.

It’s clear the PS5 Pro version is heads and shoulders above the PS5 version (and also the Xbox Series X version) making it sit closer to a high-end PC gaming rig.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, wherever you play Forza Horizon 5, you are in for a treat. From excellent gameplay to gorgeous vistas, Forza Horizon 5 still holds up remarkably well almost four years later. The PS5 Pro version is clear the winner here thanks to its more powerful hardware but kudos to the development team for adding additional features for it. The PS5 version, too, does a great job in holding up against the Xbox Series X version in terms of performance and image quality.

Forza Horizon 5 is a technical stunner on all major platforms and a must play for all racing fans.

The king of open world racers has finally landed on PlayStation, and it is predictably amazing.

When I originally reviewed Forza Horizon 5 back in 2021, I called it one of the best racing games ever made, and I still very much stand by that sentiment. Playground Games’ racer boasts a gorgeous and incredibly crafted open world, a bevy of extremely enjoyable content, best in class driving mechanics, and more, all of it combining in what is probably the best game of its kind you can play on Xbox or on PC. Now, it’s also the best game of its kind you can play on PS5.

Microsoft has been rapidly expanding its multiplatform pipeline, and Forza Horizon 5 is the latest in a string of first party Xbox titles that have made their way to Sony’s platform. And though it’s not as if PlayStation audiences had been starved for good open world racers until this moment, there should be little doubt in anyone’s mind that Forza instantly places itself on top of those charts, and puts considerable distance between itself and everything else on the platform. It’s a special, generational game, and now, PS5 audiences get to enjoy it.

For those unfamiliar, Forza Horizon 5 throws players into a massive, gorgeous open world map in Mexico. Like its predecessors, rather than going for accuracy, it instead looks to the real world location more for inspiration than anything else, crafting a huge play space that attempts to capture the characteristics and natural splendour of Mexico’s landscapes without feeling too beholden to recreating everything 1:1 the way something like, say, The Crew would.

Having already poured dozens upon dozens of hours into the game on Xbox Series X, I knew exactly what I was in for when diving into Forza Horizon 5 on PS5, but even despite my level of familiarity with the game, I couldn’t help but fall in love with its open world all over again. From the level of environmental diversity it exhibits to the way its design encourages players to keep exploring, from the stunning vistas and sceneries scattered everywhere to the bevy of fun and varied activities on offer, there’s a lot to love about Forza Horizon 5’s world, and at least as far as I’m concerned, none of it has lost any of its charm in spite of how obsessively I’ve played the game elsewhere over the years.

Those aforementioned content offerings are particularly impressive (though honestly, there’s a lot about this game that could easily fit the “particularly impressive” description- but more on that in a bit). Showcase events that serve as bombastic set pieces, traditional races and drag events and rallies and what have you, more bite-sized activities like bonus boards and speed traps to keep you occupied from moment to moment- although very little of it is revolutionary or groundbreaking in any fashion, it is all spectacularly designed and excellently executed. Even now, I’m yet to feel a single second of boredom playing this game.

That becomes that much more of an impressive accomplishment when you consider just how much there is to do in Forza Horizon 5. Its open world Mexico map is colossal, and brimming with activities that can keep you occupied for multiple dozen hours, while the Rally Adventure and Hot Wheels expansions – both of which are excellent in their own rights (the latter in particular) – are also included in the package, providing a healthy chunk of top notch content on top of the base game’s already ample offerings. And once all of that is out of the way – which won’t be a brief experience by any means, to say the very least – you can always just aimlessly drive around in your favourite vehicles, which just never seems to get old in the slightest. There aren’t too many games that can legitimately claim to have a world that’s a joy to simply exist and move around in, regardless of what sort of authored content it may or may not offer up, but Forza Horizon 5 surely has a spot on that short list.

All of that is, of course, only possible because the core driving mechanics are, in a word, sublime. Forza Horizon 5 has a startling number of vehicles for players to collect and drive, and each feels great to control, while still feeling sufficiently different from other vehicles. There’s a real, palpable sense of speed, the feedback to your inputs feels immediate and tight, and everything handles like an absolute dream. Fora Horizon 5 obviously doesn’t go for the absolute authenticity of a hardcore simulator like Forza Motorsport, instead deftly striking the perfect balance between arcade racing and realistic simulation- though it does obviously lean more heavily in the former’s favour by some margin.

Arguably, Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 feels even better to play than it has on any other platform up to this point. That, of course, is because of the DualSense. I don’t think it would be exaggeration to call the DualSense one of the best controllers ever made, thanks not only to its ergonomics, but also is unique features- which, incidentally, is exactly what elevates an already masterful racing game. Forza Horizon 5’s implementation of the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers may not pull up any trees in terms of how innovative it is (or rather, isn’t), but said features do make the moment to moment driving feel even more tactile, immediate, and impactful than it has on other platforms- which is really saying something.

It also also still looks absolutely gorgeous, of course. Forza Horizon 5 is easily one of the most technically impressive and best looking games I’ve ever played on a console, and that obviously still very much remains true on PS5 as well. Just like on Xbox Series X, which is where I previously played this game, there are next to no issues or technical blemishes of note to speak in the open world racer’s PS5 version. Between the two modes available, I went with Performance, and in the time I have spent with the game so far, I have come across no drops or hiccups. Suffice to say, Panic Button has done a solid job porting the game over to PS5.

In the end, Forza Horizon 5 is an unsurprisingly excellent game on PS5. The open world racer firmly placed itself in the annals of video game history when it first released, and in the time since then, its legend has only grown. The opinion that it is one of the best racing games ever made and a blueprint for all future titles in the genre has become an increasingly common one, so it’s no surprise that the game makes a similarly strong impression on Sony’s console. For anyone who has even a passing interest in racing games, Forza Horizon 5 is well worth checking out.

Playground Games and Microsoft's acclaimed open world racing title will launch for Sony's console later this month, on April 29.

Microsoft has released a good number of first-party titles for the PlayStation 5 by now, but the next one in line might arguably be the biggest one yet. Forza Horizon 5 is set to release for Sony’s console not long from now, and Microsoft has released a new trailer to commemorate its looming launch. Check it out below.

Forza Horizon 5 takes place in an open world Mexico setting, while the PS5 version of the game, which is developed by Panic Button, also includes its two expansions – Rally Adventure and Hot Wheels – alongside the base experience.

Forza Horizon 5 is currently available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. It launches for PS5 on April 29, while those who purchase the Premium Edition will get access a handful of days early, on April 25. Leaks have claimed that the open world title is also in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The PS5 won't be the only new platform that Microsoft's acclaimed open-world racer heads to later this year, per a known leaker.

Microsoft has finally officially announced Forza Horizon 5 for PS5, as leaks had insisted for the last few months it would. However, interestingly enough, it seems like Sony’s console isn’t the only platform that the open-world racer is speeding towards.

Forza Horizon 5 is seemingly also in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, as claimed by known leaker extas1s on Twitter shortly following the PS5 port’s announcement. Whether it will launch alongside the latter sometime in Spring remains to be seen.

Forza Horizon 5 is far from the only first-party Microsoft game to have been pegged for a Nintendo Switch 2 launch in recent days. Other prominent titles such as Diablo 4, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Starfield, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are all also allegedly in development for the upcoming console.

Nintendo has a Switch 2-focused Direct presentation scheduled for April where we might hear more about these titles (if there’s any truth to these rumours). Stay tuned for more updates.

The shooter's newest Switch update also adds BATTLEMODE 2.0, a new playable demon, as well as new Master Levels.

DOOM Eternal received some excellent post-launch support from id Software over the course of many months following its March 2020 launch, and though the bulk of that arrived in the form of its two-parter single player standalone expansion The Ancient Gods, additional content arrived in other ways as well. Last October, the brutal shooter added a horde mode and updated its multiplayer BATTLEMODE as part of a free update- though at the time, the game’s Switch version was left out.

That is no longer the case. id Software recently took to Twitter via the official DOOM page to confirm that the appropriately designated update 6.66 has gone live for DOOM Eternal on the Nintendo Switch, finally bringing the Horde Mode and BATTLEMODE 2.0 to players on the platform. On top of that, the update also adds two new Arenas, new cosmetics to unlock, a playable Dread Knight, and three new Master Levels with Mars Core, Taras Nabad, and The World Spear.

DOOM Eternal is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia. As for what id Software is working on next- the studio recently put out job listings in a bid to recruit a combat designer with “in-depth knowledge of DOOM“– take from that what you will.

The people who brought DOOM Eternal and Apex Legends to the Switch are big fans of the open world survival game.

Iron Gate AB’s open world survival game Valheim has been an absolute revelation since it launched into early acces in the beginning of February. On top of being widely praised from those who have been paying it, the game has already amassed over 5 million players, and with the promise of continued support and consistent improvements, it’s likely that that playerbase will only grow as time goes on. It goes without saying, then, that those who prefer to play their games somewhere other than PC will be wondering whether Valheim will be making the jump to other platforms down the road, with the Nintendo Switch especially seeming like a perfect fit for a game like that for obvious reasons.

One studio that may have some interest in getting the chance to take over such porting duties is Panic Button. From Rocket League, Warframe, and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus to DOOM Eternal, Apex Legends, and Subnautica, Panic Button has been responsible for a number of excellent Switch ports of games, and speaking recently to Nintendo Life, head of production Dan Hernberg said that he’d love to be able to bring Valheim to the system as well.

“I’m not sure if this is my ‘any game pick’ but, right now I’m playing way too much Valheim and I would love to port that to Switch,” he said.

Of course, it goes without saying that this is just Hernberg talking about something he’d like to do, so it isn’t necessarily something that will happen, especially since Panic Button’s technical director Andy Boggs followed that up with saying that he personally would like to see Bloodborne on the Switch. That said, Valheim on the Switch would be a great fit, and port wizards Panic Button would surely be the right people to bring it over to the platform- especially seeing as Iron Gate, already a very small studio, have their hands full with more pressing stuff right now.

Some compromises on bringing the battle royale title to Nintendo's hybrid.

Apex Legends originally launched over 2 years ago and has been going strong ever since then. Now the game is set to come to a brand new platform in Nintendo’s hybrid system, the Switch. We got a trailer that served as a first look at the game running on the device, and it wasn’t too shabby, but now we know a bit more on the technical side of things.

Panic Button, who is handling the Switch port, Technical Director Andy Boggs spoke with Japanese magazine Famitsu about this version. When asked about the resolution and framerate, he said the game aims to run 720p while docked, with an aim of 576p in portable mode. Regardless of how you play it, the target is 30 FPS (thanks to NintendoEverything for translations on that).

It’s obviously quite a large compromise, but that’s the price of potential portability. Apex Legends is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The Switch version will launch on March 9th.

You can also snag a free limited time Pathfinder skin until May.

Apex Legends managed to carve out a strong niche for itself in the line of never ending live service and battle royale. The game has gone on for consoles and PC for a long time now, and this month it will come to Nintendo’s handheld hybrid, the Switch, and today we get our first look at it.

It was announced last week that the game would be coming to the Switch, ported by the talented folks at Panic Button. Below is the gameplay trailer, dropping a week ahead of the game’s launch. You can tell there’s a visual downgrade here, but the game still looks pretty sharp all things considered, and there is no mention of framerate.

You can also snag a free limited time Pathfinder skin up until May 4th as well as 30 free battle pass levels and double experience points for the first two weeks after release. This version does feature cross-play and full feature parity, which you can read more about through here.

Apex Legends is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The Switch edition is slated to release on March 9th.
