Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous' Through the Ashes DLC now has a continuation in the form of The Lord of Nothing.

Leading up to the release of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, developer Owlcat Games has released a new DLC for its previous game—Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. The DLC, titled The Lord of Nothing, is the fifth one released for the game so far, and is part of the game’s second season pass. Check out the trailer for it below.

The DLC is a follow-up to another DLC, Through the Ashes, which focuses on the story of a different set of characters than the main campaign. The story of Sendri and Rekarth is continued, with plot points related to the game’s main campaign also being revealed along the way. The Lord of Nothing can be played as either a continuation of Through the Ashes, or as a standalone campaign with fresh characters.

Along with new story content, The Lord of Nothing also brings with it a host of new character options, including new archetypes, spells, and feats. The DLC release has been accompanied by a major update that, among other things, includes a complete rework of the Assassin class, along with new spells, animations, and mythic feats.

The first DLC adds a new companion and class. The second continues the story of "Through the Ashes," while the third returns to Kenabres.

Owlcat Games’ Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will be receiving more paid DLC in the future. It’s announced Season Pass 2, consisting of three premium DLC packs. A release date wasn’t provided, but it can be pre-ordered today on PC. Console players can purchase it when the first DLC is made available.

None of the DLC has an official name yet, though their contents have been revealed. DLC #4 features a new brawler companion and a new playable class – the Shifter. They’ll also explore the “lost secrets of Old Sarkoris” and apparently “find new love, one transcending time itself.”

DLC #5 is a new standalone campaign continuing from Through the Ashes. It sees a new demon lord rising, and it’s up to a normal group of adventurers to stop it, fighting frozen minions in the process. Though it can be played without experiencing Through the Ashes, save data from the latter allows for carrying your hero over. The DLC will take 6-7 hours to complete and unlocks a new dungeon in the main campaign.

Finally, DLC #6 sees players revisiting Kenabres after it’s rebuilt. A festival is held, and the protagonist is the guest of honor. It’s a way to hang out with companions, but Kenabres still has some secrets to discover.

Creative director Alexander Mishulin said, “Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is the first title created by Owlcat as an independent studio with complete control over the development, and we have far-reaching plans for future updates and new content.

“It’s been a year since we released the game, but there is still a dedicated team in our studio working exclusively on Pathfinder. And we have a lot of ideas for your future adventures. Thus, we will continue making new content in the form of DLC for our game.”

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is available for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch via the cloud. Check out our review here for more details.

Embark to a mysterious archipelago on a cursed ship and partake in rogue-like challenges, battling new and old enemies while seeking treasure.

Along with announcing a release date for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous on Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, Owlcat Games also revealed the game’s third and final DLC – Treasure of the Midnight Isles. It releases on August 11th for PC and can be purchased standalone or with the Season Pass. Check out the first trailer below.

Treasure of the Midnight Isles is set in an archipelago which boasts, well, treasure and “horrors unspeakable” along with a cursed ship. Playable as part of the campaign or a standalone rogue-like mode, players can invest in different builds and even use Mythic Paths to try and survive. If your party falls, then that progress will assist in future playthroughs (though how remains to be seen).

Along with fighting old and new enemies, one can use new magic weapons, magic potions and scrolls. Eventually, you’ll learn more about the cursed ship and the true nature of the treasure. Stay tuned for more details en route to the DLC’s release.

Enhanced Edition was also announced, which will be the standard version for console releases and a free upgrade for current owners on PC.

After a significant delay, Owlcat Games’ Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will release on September 29th for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch in physical and digital formats along with being playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S through backwards compatibility. The Switch version is playable via the cloud.

PC players are also in luck as the base game, which has been available since September 2021, is getting an Enhanced Edition. It will be available on the same day and serve as the console releases’ standard version. Much like Pathfinder: Kingmaker, the Enhanced Edition will be a free upgrade for PC owners.

How it will improve the current game remains to be seen but controller support has been confirmed at the very least. For more details on Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, check out our review of the launch version here.
The DLC adds two new characters - Rekarth, a former thief, and Sendri, a magic wielder. It's coming to Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store.

Owlcat Games has announced that its next DLC for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Through the Ashes, is out on April 21st. It will launch for PC via Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store. Details on gameplay have yet to be revealed but two new characters will be joining players on their journey.

A former thief, Rekarth is a tiefling described as “harsh” but who “gets things done.” Sendri, on the other hand, is a gnome who’s more lighthearted and uses magic. Though their roles in this new story are unknown, they will reportedly “do their best to help you get to safety” (and hope you do the same in return).

If Through the Ashes is included with the Season Pass, then this is likely its second DLC. According to its Steam listing, it’s an additional campaign that sees players working with other survivors to reach the Defender’s Heart in Kenabres. You must choose who will join and allocate resources accordingly, meaning you can act selfishly or for everyone’s benefit. Stay tuned for more details and confirmation in the meantime.

A conservative yet meaningful evolution of the classic RPG.

Gaming has no real shortage of beefy top-down RPGs, and at first glance, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous doesn’t really seem like it’s thinking outside of the box enough to really stand out, but just barely under that familiar exterior lies a meticulously crafted and compelling role-playing experience that does manage to live up to its Dungeons and Dragons heritage.

The sheer depth of Wrath of the Righteous will immediately be one of its more apparent characteristics upon first firing it up. It’s clearly not a game that is too worried about players that want to hurry up and get going. No, this game revels in giving you multiple opportunities to take your time weighing your choices and making informed decisions. That said, if you do have the patience for it but aren’t super familiar with the genre, Wrath of the Righteous could end up being a rather palatable entry point as it does guide you through its various systems in a somewhat uncharacteristically generous way. The slow burn of how the game’s various mechanics open up to you as you play makes it go down even smoother, and thus should be music to the ears of anybody who felt put off by Pathfinder: Kingmaker’s instant ocean of systems and options that were expected to be immediately absorbed by players. Plenty of classes provide more than enough variety in choosing what direction you would like to take, and eventually, mythic abilities to choose from further add to the complexity of crafting your unique character.

"Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous doesn’t really seem like it’s thinking outside of the box enough to really stand out, but just barely under that familiar exterior lies a meticulously crafted and compelling role-playing experience that does manage to live up to its Dungeons and Dragons heritage."

Among the many improvements that you’ll immediately notice are a very clear UI, a somewhat darker tone of the world, and decent – but not amazing – graphics. The UI in particular works just how it should with dragging and dropping items into individual inventory bars being as effortless and logical as it probably can be. Thankfully the more somber tone of the world also works out as it fits the narrative, which is often full of hopeless odds and dark forces. More fundamentally though, the turn-based option added to combat brings a sense of flexibility in a way that many similar games simply don’t have and ends up being one of the game’s defining characteristics.

You may want to take things slower with this option or charge in with real-time combat depending on the situation and it’s nice to see the best of both worlds here. Combat itself is also enhanced by a rather fast-paced and responsive system that contrasts with the game’s slower, methodical approach to its other systems, but not in a bad way- although some fights are over so fast it’s hard to tell who hit who before they’re over. A more diverse set of visual indicators letting you know what’s going on probably would have been helpful here, but at the end of the day it does still play well, and that’s what matters most.

"Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous offers players with a plethora of choices which lean into being more morally ambiguous than I expected."

Crafting is much deeper than in the previous Pathfinder game with a deep alchemy system. Again, this is not something that Wrath of the Righteous invented, but it is nice to see it implemented in this game, as it does make the experience feel far more well-rounded than it otherwise would have.

Something that many games of this type are lacking to one degree or another is well-written and acted characters. Refreshingly, this is not an issue in Wrath of the Righteous. The still images that you spend much of the dialogue looking at do leave quite a bit to the imagination, but you could argue that is sort of the point with this type of game, so it fits well within this genre and setting, and the charismatic voice acting goes a long way to bringing the game’s many characters to life anyway, so regardless of what mindset you are coming at this game with, i.e. that of either an RPG newbie or a seasoned purist, you will likely feel at least somewhat catered to in terms of the story and depictions of the characters. I do wish that the actual in-game character models looked better though.

Of course, visual fidelity is generally not the top priority of a game in a genre that cut its teeth by almost completely relying on players’ imaginations, but at the same time, there doesn’t seem to be much reason why so many of the games models and other assets need to look quite so dated with fake reflections and wooden animations. Many of the bigger baddies don’t suffer as much, but I’d still say the graphics are fairly lacking across the board – both in terms of general detail and interesting visual effects.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous offers players with a plethora of choices which lean into being more morally ambiguous than I expected. Some characters are clearly up to no good, but you may choose to align with them to advance your own interests, and this greatly helps the story bypass some of the more predictable RPG tropes of good guys and bad guys being obvious and overly defined. The game has many moments where you can choose evil or good outcomes for various situations, and while neither are technically wrong, they do feel consequential nonetheless, as they can (and will) impact your experience both functionally and contextually.

"The game has many moments where you can choose evil or good outcomes for various situations, and while neither are technically wrong, they do feel consequential nonetheless, as they can (and will) impact your experience both functionally and contextually."

The audio department has a lot of adequate battle sounds, but that’s about where the compliments stop. Music is mostly fitting for whatever is going on at the moment, but it’s also nothing you haven’t heard dozens of times before in the genre- many of which were done better.

After you really get your arms around Wrath of the Righteous, you get a sense that Owlcat was really trying to walk a fine line between making a deep RPG that welcomes new players with improved gameplay and systems, but also one that feels like a true evolution of the last game, and it’s not a throwaway compliment to say that they have largely achieved that. Doing both of those things on top of pulling everything else together is no small feat, and Owlcat deserves credit for that. Had the visuals, audio, environmental variety, and various animations been improved equally as much, it probably would have achieved its goals even more, but as it stands, if you want a rewarding full-throated CRPG that respects your dedication, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is a fine choice.

Along with the Croatia Rally and Rally de Catalunya, the sequel will feature numerous historical cars like the Audi Quattro and Lancia Delta Group A to celebrate the World Rally Championship’s 50th anniversary. Considering the jump in quality that last year’s iteration offered, it may be worth checking out WRC 10 when it releases for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5 in the coming days.

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch

Set in Torch City following the Machine Legion’s invasion several years ago, players control Rayton, a former soldier trying to rescue his friend. At his disposal are a mechanical Power Fist, Whip and Drill which can be used to pull off some crazy combos. With a grungy but beautiful aesthetic and tons of areas to explore, F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch should be worth checking out for genre fans when it releases on September 7th for PS4, PS5 and PC.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate

It’s not everyday that a good Sonic game gets a remastered re-release but 2010’s Sonic Colors is thankfully getting another opportunity to shine. The Ultimate version is out on September 7th for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and PS4, and sees Sonic and Tails traveling to Doctor Eggman’s Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park to rescue the mysterious Wisps. Along with offering a mix of 2.5D side-scrolling and fast-paced 3D platforming, various mechanics like Boost and drifting are available. On top of this, Sonic can use eight different abilities from the Wisps, like drilling through the ground and transforming into a laser. In terms of improvements, expect a higher frame rate and resolution, the Jade Ghost Wisp, a re-recorded OST and Rival Rush for racing against Metal Sonic

The Artful Escape

First showcased in March 2017, The Artful Escape is finally nearing release after seeing numerous delays throughout the years. The musical platforming adventure sees one Francis Vendetti set to make his debut under the shadow of his legendary uncle and thus struggling to find his own identity. Thus does he embark on a psychedelic new journey through various musical landscapes, using his guitar to platform and battle foes. With a gorgeous art-style and sound-tracked effused with epic themes, The Artful Escape could end up being an underrated classic when it launches on September 9th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and iOS.

Life is Strange: True Colors

Life is Strange returns and this time, empathy is your superpower. It’s a little more complicated than that for True Colors’ protagonist Alex Chen who reunites with her brother Gabe in Haven Springs. The scenic beauty and spirit of the community is ultimately unsettled when Gabe passes away from an accident. With the ability to read people’s emotions as different colors, Alex goes about investigating his death. Life is Strange: True Colors is a full release instead of being broken into episodes and is out on September 10th for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Google Stadia.

Lost in Random

Lost in Random appears, at first, to be an action adventure title with a Tim Burton-esque aesthetic, centering on Even as she explores the Kingdom of Random to save her sister Odd. However, everything in Random is determined by games and Even must take part in game board-style battles to prevail. She’ll have Dicey on hand to help though – attacking enemies will power its abilities and unleash unique cards, whether it’s explosives or barriers. Out on September 10th, Lost in Random will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.

NBA 2K22

Another year, another NBA 2K title and while I’m personally not a fan of the series microtransaction-laden gameplay, there is quite a bit that’s new in NBA 2K22. Gameplay-wise, precision jump shots, blocking and more are being changed; MyNBA returns with its customizable features (only on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 though) while MyWBNA is being introduced; and MyCareer’s The City is even larger while Hidden Talents provides alternate ventures like fashion and hip-hop. PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC players aren’t being swept aside entirely either thanks to the addition of the 2K Cruise, which offers unique Excursions and events in various locations. NBA 2K22 launches on September 10th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch so we won’t have to wait long to see how much it improves.

Tales of Arise

The Tales series returns with its biggest, most epic title to date in Tales of Arise. The story sees the denizens of Rena subjugating Dahna, enslaving its people and exploiting their resources. As Alphen, a Dahnan man without any memories, players team up with Shionne of Rena and embark on a journey to free the oppressed. Along with meeting other party members and traveling the world, players will utilize new skills like Boost Strike and Counter Edge in the revamped combat system. Activities like fishing, farming and more are also available along with the return of skits. Tales of Arise releases on September 10th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PC and PS5, and promises to be about as long as Tales of Berseria (which is a good thing).

Deathloop

Ever get that feeling of deja vu? For hitman Colt Vahn, it only felt like yesterday when he arrived on Blackreef to take out the Visionaries, a mysterious group harnessing the island’s technology to party eternally. It’s up to Colt to kill all of his targets before midnight, utilizing a mix of stealth, abilities and firearms before the loop resets. In the midst of all of this is agent Julianna, either controlled by AI or another player, who seeks to protect the loop (and mess with Colt as much as possible). With Arkane’s unique brand of sandbox gameplay and a rocking aesthetic, Deathloop promises to be a fun spin on the roguelite genre when it releases on September 14th for PS5 and PC.

Aragami 2

Much like the original, stealth and shadow control are key in Lince Works’ Aragami 2. This time around though, players have more freedom and opportunities to sneak around the world, playing alone or in three-person squads in co-op. A variety of powers and abilities are available while combat has been improved to be more skill-focused (though it’s still inherently riskier than stealth). Extensive customization, improved visuals and a more effective story should make Aragami 2 a cut above its predecessor when it releases on September 17th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Numerous delays haven’t dulled the beauty of Ember Lab’s upcoming action adventure title and it’s finally releasing on September 21st for PS4, PS5 and PC. Kena: Bridge of Spirits follows spirit guide Kena as she travels to a decrepit village and looks to ferry the spirits of its deceased to the afterlife. Along the way, Kena will meet small spirits called the Rot who will help solve puzzles and fight off enemies. With a soothing animated aesthetic and solid gameplay, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is looking very appealing.

Lake

Lake, an indie adventure from developer Gamious, looks to take players on a more grounded kind of escape when it releases on September 1st. As Meredith Weiss, you venture to Providence Oaks in Oregon for two weeks, taking a sabbatical from your old software development job to deliver the mail. Talk to and hang out with the different residents, or simply stay at home to read; experience branching storylines and ultimately determine your path in life. If a chill adventure game sounds good to you, then Lake may be worth checking out when it comes to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.

Diablo 2: Resurrected

After the failure of Warcraft 3: Reforged (not to mention tons of controversy at Activision-Blizzard), Diablo 2 is next in line to be remastered. The visuals have been improved tremendously while still keeping true to the original’s aesthetic as players explore Sanctuary as one of seven classes to defeat the forces of evil. Support for 4K resolution, cross-progression and quality of life features like auto pick-up for gold and Shared Stash tabs make this a lot more inviting for today’s players but it’s still the classic action RPG that fans grew up with. Diablo 2: Resurrected releases on September 23rd for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Sable

Another interesting title in the “chill adventure” genre is Shedworks’ Sable, which releases on September 23rd for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Boasting gorgeous visuals, the story centers on Sable as she ventures out into the world to find a mask and complete her clan’s rite of passage. She’ll traverse dunes on her customizable hoverbike, investigate strange ruins and ultimately learn more about the mysterious world while forging her own path.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut

The journey of Sam and B.B. came to a relatively satisfying conclusion when Death Stranding released last year. However, the Director’s Cut – which launches on September 24th for PS5 – proves that there’s still room for improvement. It adds numerous new tools, like a Buddy Bot that can carry Sam and thrusters for safe landings when jumping from high places; the new Fragile Circuit for races, complete with time trials and leaderboards; a new Firing Range with practice and Ranked Drills; replays for boss fights; and some new story content that promises more stealth-based action. This is in addition to new graphics modes like upscaled 4K/60 FPS and native 4K, support for the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers and an option for PS4 players to upgrade to the Director’s Cut Digital Deluxe Edition on PS5 for just $10.

Lost Judgment

What defines justice? Former lawyer turned private detective Takayuki Yagami seeks to answer this while delving into a strange murder. Lost Judgment sees players venturing to Isezaki Ijincho to go undercover in a school and while there are activities like dancing, drone combat and boxing, themes of bullying and abuse also come to light. Overall, the sequel improves on pretty much every aspect of the original, adding a new combat Style, parkour for platforming, more in-depth stealth mechanics, better chase sequences and much more. It arrives on September 24th for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and Xbox One.

New World

Even with so many delays over the years – including a recent one from August to September – enthusiasm for Amazon’s New World is still strong. The MMO takes a somewhat different direction from its competition, focusing on the interactions between the three factions on Aeternum Island. Though the island has its own unique mysteries and PvE content, players will spend time creating settlements, battling those from other factions and establishing their own foothold. It’s out on September 28th for PC with a beta on September 9th but whether it can maintain its momentum after launch remains to be seen.

Hot Wheels Unleashed

Milestone’s Hot Wheels Unleashed may not be the most realistic-looking racer but it is looking to be the best possible Hot Wheels title ever made. With over 60 cars, from real-world vehicles to fantasy offerings like the Batmobile and Knight Rider, it offers a variety of twisting, turning tracks set in real-world environments. Players can also partake in the track builder and create their own unique courses, or go on online to challenge players (though offline split-screen is also available). Hot Wheels Unleashed arrives on September 27th for Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Xuan Yuan Sword 7

Released last October for PC, Xuan Yuan Sword 7 is coming to PS4 in September and offers hack and slash RPG action with the backdrop of Chinese mythology as Taishi Zao battles monsters and seeks to unravel the mystery behind a strange bamboo slip. Along with creating unique techniques, players can improve their armor and weapons while leveraging the fast-paced combat to dominate foes. As a somewhat off-beat option, it may be worth checking out when it releases on September 31st.
