The 3D turn-based strategy features 151 Pokemon from Gen 1, with 3v3 combat, online battles and trading, and much more on Switch.

Pokemon Stadium, the turn-based strategy spin-off of the Pokemon series, is now available on Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo 64 title is playable for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.

Released in 2000 and developed by HAL Laboratory instead of Game Freak, Pokemon Stadium was an anomaly among Pokemon titles at the time. It’s fully 3D and features 151 Pokemon from the first-generation Game Boy titles. In addition to trading and battling (with online support), there are 3v3 battles against a series of opponents courtesy of the stadium cups.

Those itching for a serious challenge could also take on the Kanto gym leaders and Elite Four. There are also nine mini-games, like a Simon Says-style game with Clefairy, and Thundering Dynamo with Pikachu and Voltorb, along with a Hall of Fame. It’s unknown if Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow emulation has carried over to the Nintendo Switch version.

Stay tuned for updates on other titles for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which is available for $49.99 yearly.

The beloved N64 game will become available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack players later this month, it's been confirmed.

Outside of the mainline Pokemon RPGs, N64’s Pokemon Stadium has to be one of the series’ most beloved entries to date, and soon, Nintendo will be making it playable to wider audiences once again. It was confirmed in September last year that the acclaimed battle arena game would be coming to Nintendo Switch Online’s library at some point in the future, and it now finally has a release date.

Nintendo has announced that Pokemon Stadium will be added to the service’s N64 library a little over a week from now, on April 12. As an N64 title, it will be accessible only to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers, with both single player and multiplayer offerings being included. Check out its trailer below to get a glimpse of what the game will have in store.

Across its NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, Game Boy, and Game Boy Advance libraries, Nintendo Switch Online has built up a healthy catalog of legacy titles for subscribers to dive into, and Pokemon Stadium should serve as a solid addition to that lineup.

The higher tier of Nintendo Switch's online subscription service is about to add to its N64 library with several notable additions.

Nintendo has consistently been adding solid new N64 games to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library over the course of the last few months, from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and Pokemon Snap to Wave Race 64, F-Zero X, and much more. Of course, the company promised that there’d be much more coming soon, and during its recent Nintendo Direct presentation, it announced a new batch of upcoming N64 additions for the subscription service’s higher tier.

While a release date hasn’t yet been confirmed for these new titles, Nintendo has confirmed that Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s N64 library will be adding Mario Party, Mario Party 2, Mario Party 3, Pilotwings 64, Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Stadium 2, 1080° Snowboarding, and Excitebike 64.

In addition to all of this, GoldenEye 007 has also finally been announced for Nintendo Switch Online (and for Xbox Game Pass). Read more on that through here.

Wii U saved!

You see that up there? That rather blurry screenshot is from a retrospective trailer for Pokemon X and Y at the just concluded Pokemon Game Show in Japan, a three day long expo for all things Pokemon.

The teaser in question showed off the evolution of the Pokemon series from Red and Blue all the way to X and Y on the 3DS, before announcing the release date for those games; it then proceeded to tease everybody with that mysterious image that you see above.

What might it be? Your guess is as good as anyone’s. It looks like a Wii U Pokemon game, but if it is that, what kind of a Pokemon game is it? Something like a Pokemon Stadium or a full fledged RPG would actually help the Wii U; something like Pokemon Rumble or Battle Revolution would be useless.

We don’t know anything more about the game yet. We don’t even know if it is a game. But we’ll keep you posted on it.
