The new fantasy RPG might also release for the Switch.

The first details on Atlus’ upcoming fantasy RPG game, codenamed Project Re Fantasy, emerged back in 2017. Directed by Atlus veteran Katsura Hashino, who’s also directed the likes of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 5, and Catherine, there haven’t been really a lot of updates on the game other than a teaser trailer and some scant details.

However, a new job listing posted by Atlus might have clued us into a new bit of info- more specifically, what platforms we can expect to see it on. Given Atlus’ track record, we can definitely expect to see the game on whatever PlayStation platforms are active at the time, but the game might also come to the Switch, with a job ad for the position of Programmer talking about “coding software that operates on portable game consoles.”

Though there have been very few updates on Project Re Fantasy from Atlus’ side over the years – we don’t even know its actual name yet – back in December last year, the developer assured that both it and upcoming Switch exclusive Shin Megami Tensei 5 are “under active development.” Read more on that through here.

No, they haven't forgotten about SMT 5.

Back in 2017, Atlus announced Shin Megami Tensei 5, and confirmed the RPG as an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, but there’s been nothing but radio silence on that front from them since then. Early on in 2018, Atlus developed that the game had entered full-scale production, and now, they’ve provided yet another update.

The update is- there is no update. Apparently, the game is still “under active development”. This comes to us through Atlus’ end-of-year messages in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu (via Persona Central).

Shin Megami Tensei 5 is not the only major game they’re working on, of course. There’s also Project Re Fantasy, a brand new fantasy JRPG IP helmed by the director of Persona 5 that they haven’t yet officially revealed, but have explicitly said will be entirely different from Persona. Project Re Fantasy is another project that Atlus gave an update on in their new year’s message, confirming that it, too, is under active development.

Here’s hoping that we get more substantial updates on both of them soon.
