However, as per the TGS 2021 schedule, it doesn't look like Square Enix plans on showing the likes of Forspoken or Final Fantasy 16.

Tokyo Game Show will kick off a multi-day digital event packed with game announcements and updates later this month, and recently, it was confirmed that on day one, Square Enix would have its own 50 minute-long livestream as well. Of course, people have been wondering what exactly the publisher will show, and now, we have a clearer idea of what to expect.

As spotted by RPG Site, the preliminary exhibit list for TGS 2021 has now gone live, and it details the games that the publisher will be bringing with it. Among these, the biggest upcoming titles are probably Switch exclusive Project Triangle Strategy and the PS5 exclusive Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (both of which we might see more of, with the PlayStation Showcase set for September 9 and another Nintendo Direct also rumoured for this month).

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 14 is also mentioned in the list of games, which most likely means we’ll be seeing more of its upcoming expansion, Endwalker. Also on the docket is Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which launches late next month, and the mobile battle royale shooter Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier. Meanwhile, some games that have already released over the past few months will also show up, including Bravely Default 2, Outriders, and NEO: The World Ends with You.

Of course, it’s hard not to notice that major upcoming releases like Forspoken and Final Fantasy 16 are not mentioned in this list. Given comments made by the latter’s producer Naoki Yoshida in the not-too-distant past, this doesn’t really come as a huge surprise, though fans will still be disappointed.

Either way, we’ll be covering all details and updates coming from TGS, so stay tuned.

But nothing's been finalized as of yet.

Taking the HD-2D art style of Octopath Traveler and merging it with turn-based tactics and choice-driven gameplay, Project Triangle Strategy (as it’s being called right now) is looking like a particularly interesting prospect. The game’s recent demo was met with solid responses all around, and there’s plenty of questions about how the final project’s going to turn out. During a recent interview at Game Live Japan (translated by Nintendo Everything), producer Tomoya Asano revealed plenty of new details, while also speaking about how long it’s going to be.

Asano reiterated that Project Triangle Strategy will have multiple endings, and that currently, the development team is aiming for a runtime of about 50 hours, as they generally tend to with most of their projects. He did add, however, that that’s up in the air, and things could change.

“We are planning for the game to have multiple endings,” Asano said. “As for the game time, that’s still up in the air… we always aim for around the 50-hour mark, but it never seems to turn out that way.”

When asked about when we can expect to hear more about the game, Asano’s response was pretty vague, simply saying that hopefully, it’ll be “before it gets cold.”

Project Triangle Strategy is due out for the Switch some time in 2022. The game’s demo is currently available on the Switch eShop.

The next 2D-HD title from Square Enix has officially been revealed with Project Triangle Strategy (working title). As a tactical RPG title, it utilizes the same art-style as Octopath Traveler with 3D environments and 2D sprites. The combat system utilizes an isometric perspective along with combining different attacks. Check it out below.

Much like Octopath Traveler, different decisions can influence who joins your party along with determining the fate of nations. You’ll utilize some rather interesting scales, which can cause a nation to either surrender or fight against you. Narratives will branch quite significantly, ensuring that different players experience different events throughout.

Project Triangle Strategy is out in 2022 for Nintendo Switch. While that’s a ways off, there will be a free demo available after the Nintendo Direct presentation. A survey will also be conducted to glean feedback from players and improve the experience. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
