A slow month.

New sales numbers from the market research group NPD have shown that March was a slow month for the sales of video games, even with Sony and From Software having shipped their latest PS4 exclusive Bloodborne and EA having shipped Battlefield Hardline, Visceral Games’ first person shooter.

One analyst in the employ of NPD, Liam Callahan, has spoken about the slow sales. “Physical software sales decreased by 6 percent from March 2014 as strong growth of [PS4, Xbox One, Wii U] helped to partially offset the sharp declines of seventh generation consoles, which were down 52 percent, and physical PC games, down 64 percent,”

“The launch of Bloodborne ranked as second overall in software sales this month,” said Callahan.

“But also has the second-highest sales for the debut month of a first-party game on the PS4, after Infamous: Second Son, in March 2014.”

In regards to total software units shipped, these are the numbers that NPD present.

Battlefield: Hardline (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, 360, PS3, PC)

Bloodborne (PS4)

Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)

Mario Party 10 (Wii U) (sold 290,000 copies physical and digital, according to Nintendo)

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)

MLB 15: The Show (PS4, PS3)

Minecraft (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4)

NBA 2K15 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (PS4, Xbox One)

Final Fantasy: Type 0 HD (PS4, Xbox One)

Capcom has revealed their financial results for the fiscal year which ended on March 31st 2013. The results seem to meet the publishers expectations with the exception of Resident Evil 6.

Overall net sales happen to reach 94.1 billion yen (£613m), which ups the percentage by 14.6 compared to last year. Meanwhile, the net profit was dropped by 55.8% year-on-year to three billion yen (£19.6m).

Resident Evil 6 managed to sell 4.9 units, which didn’t satisfy the publisher’s original sales forecast which was 7 million units. Despite the failed Resident Evil 6 sales, Dragon’s Dogma surpassed Capcom’s expectations with sales of 1.3 million; also the long-awaited reboot Devil May Cry sold a “solid” 1.1 million copies, the game has “stable popularity in overseas markets”.

The new fiscal year has begun, Capcom hopes to have net sales of 97 billion yen (£632) along with a net profit of 6.8 billion yen (£44.3m). Capcom recently stated that they decided to kill of several internal projects after the lower-than-expected sales that games like Resident evil 6 received in order to increase internal development. They said, “In order to lower development costs and shorten time frame for development, Capcom will restructure its development organisations, which are the core parts of the company’s business, increasing ratio of in-house developments by focusing on the overhaul of overseas development companies.”

What do you think Capcom will be creating next? Also, check out our Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen review and check back on GamingBolt for future title announcements from Capcom.

EA has stated today that SimCity has sold more than 1.6 million copies since its launch in March. Meanwhile, the game had an atrocious launch due to massive server issues that forced players to go offline and making the game basically unplayable for long periods of time. However, even though SimCity didn’t have that much of a successful launch EA said that these sales are tracking “ahead of forecasts”.

The company also stated that almost half of the sales were purchased digitally.

EA Labels president Frank Gibeau has stated earlier today that the company has “learned [its] lesson” following the game’s troubled launch, with the firm promising to be better prepared for future major launches.

EA and Maxis have also announced that The Sims 4 is already in development for PC and Mac and that the game will be playable offline, as opposed to SimCity. The Sims 4 is slated to come out sometime next year.

Are you still playing SimCity and looking forward to The Sims 4? Lets us know in the comments below.

The third best selling game of the 3DS is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, selling 2,490,000 since its release last June. Capcom’s Monster Hunter Tri G is the fourth highest selling 3DS game, selling over a million units.
