Sing a song for the RPG's enhanced re-release.

One great thing about the Switch’s success is that it’s helped certain Wii U titles that didn’t get a fair shot due to the console’s failure get a whole new lease on life. That’s the case for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. The game, a crossover kind of, sort of between Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei, will get an Encore on the Switch and today we got a musical launch trailer to celebrate.

The launch trailer covers some of the story, where mysterious portals begin opening up over modern day Tokyo. It’s up to a band of young people who can harness the power of interdimensional demons to stop this new threat. The trailer highlights some of the combat, as well as the musical nature of the game as it’s heavily influenced by Japanese idol culture with things like duets and solos being a key part of combat. The enhanced remake will feature a host of new content as well, which you can read a lot about through here.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is available as of today only on Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo and Atlus’ weird Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem crossover offshoot Tokyo Mirage Sessions didn’t get nearly as much praise and attention as it deserved with it first launched on the Wii U. But like so many other games that suffered a similar fate, it’ll be hoping for much better fortune when it sees an expanded re-release for the Switch in a few days’ time.

In anticipation of the upcoming launch, Nintendo have released a new trailer, which going into great detail with the RPG’s combat system and its mechanics. It’s a pretty meaty trailer at over 5 minutes long, and contains plenty of gameplay (and sick narration from an enthusiastic narrator), while also explaining the basic ins and outs of its battles pretty well. Take a look below (and get over more details on the combat through here).

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is out exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on January 17.

When it comes to off-the-wall crossovers, you don’t get much more off-the-wall than Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, which is a crossover between Nintendo’s Fire Emblem and Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei- and it is so distinct from both, it stands far and away as its own thing. The game is scheduled to get its Encore release on the Switch later this month, and today we get a peek at some new content it will have over the original Wii U release.

Via GameXplain, we recently got to see some of Encore’s new EX Story content. This will include new dungeons, costumes, session characters to summon in combat, as well as new story content and songs. Some of this material was actually DLC for the Wii U release, but there will also be fresh content for the re-release. Check it out below.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore will launch on the Nintendo Switch on January 17th. To get a bit more familiar with the game’s musical world and combat system, take a look through here.

A look at various aspects of the upcoming RPG.

I’m not sure if there’s a lot of competition for musical based traditional Japanese RPGs, but if there is, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE definitely deserved to be near the top. The game was a strange mishmash of Fire Emblem, Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, and it’s getting a new shot at life with a Switch enhanced re-release.

Two new trailers highlight two aspects of the game, one of which is the story and world you’ll be visiting. The video is in Japanese, so it may be a bit hard to follow if you don’t read or speak the language but you’ll get the colorful and musical world you’ll be visiting. The other is all about the game’s unique battle system, which will be familiar to those who are acquainted with the systems of the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch January 17th. For more looks into the game’s world, in English to boot, you can take a look through here.

A look at the game's characters, dungeons, and more.

One unfortunate side effect of the Wii U’s underperformance was that a slew of interesting titles didn’t manage to get their due. With the Switch becoming a powerhouse of sales, it means a lot of those titles are getting an encore, with Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE getting a literal one in an enhanced re-release. For those unfamiliar with the title, that definitely flew under the radar when it initially released, we got a special overview trailer to get you up to speed.

The game is a combination of Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei, of sorts, and features various references and fan service from both franchises. You must battle interdimensional threats with the power of pop music (seriously), as you battle through turn-based combat focused on crafting weaponry. Check it out below.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore will release exclusively on Switch January 17th, 2020. For more on the game’s combat and setting, take a look through here.

She Is..., one of the new songs for the re-release, get a preview.

When it was announced that the long running Japanese RPG series of Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem would get a crossover game, the resulting Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was probably not what many were expecting. Much closer in look and tone to Persona, the sister series to Shin Megami Tensei, the game also brought a musical edge. The enhanced re-release of the game, Encore, will feature more songs, such as the one previewed today.

The song in question is “She Is…” and you can see it in the video below. Like many of the songs in the original release, it’s got a J-Pop vibe to it, and if you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll bump your head to it (if that’s what you do to J-Pop, I have no idea).

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore will release on the Nintendo Switch January 17th, 2020. For a look at the game’s combat and setting, take a read through here.

The enhanced version of the game includes lots of new content.

One great thing about the massive success of Nintendo’s Switch is that it’s allowed a new, budding audience for games that didn’t manage to land on the game’s previous home console that was a bit of a flop, the Wii U. Most major titles have been ported, and it’ll soon be time for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore to give the game a second act, and it comes with some new content.

In the latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu, it was revealed that the game will include the full base game of the RPG as well as new costumes, songs, new assist characters for combat, music videos and a full new dungeon for people to explore.

Tokyo Mirage Session #FE Encore will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch on January 17th 2020 to kick off the new year.

When it was announced years ago that Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei and Nintendo’s Fire Emblem would have a crossover, no one expected the final release. Tokyo Mirage Session #FE was closer to a Persona title than SMT in its style and tone, revolving around pop idols, colorful backgrounds and catchy music. It was a strange mishmash, but for those that played it, it was a great RPG. Now it’s getting a second chance in the form of an enhanced re-release.

The original game released on the Wii U to not a lot of fanfare. The enhanced version, Encore, was announced via today’s Nintendo Direct. This version will include a brand new song as well as new story elements and features. No details yet on what that entails, but it’ll probably be fairly in line with Atlus’ other RPG re-releases.

Tokyo Mirage Session #FE Encore will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch January 17th 2020.
