Tekken 7 Will Not Have Cross Platform Play, Producer Confirms, It’s A ‘First Party Issue’

'It's a first party security issue.'

Contrary to what many had hoped, the upcoming Tekken 7, the next instalment in Bandai Namco’s long running 3D fighting game series, will not feature cross platform play across PS4, Xbox One, and PC after all. “Hi there, there will not be a cross play feature for Tekken 7 Hi there, there will not be a cross play feature for Tekken 7”, the publisher said on its official Australian Twitter account upon being asked.

The producer for the game, Katsuhiro Harada, also chipped in, noting that while this is something he wants to do, either Sony and/or Microsoft are not letting him. “It’s NOT my heart & our issue. It’s 1st Party issue & platform security policy issue. Remember, SFV & KI is Exclusive PS4 or X1,” he said.

Given that Microsoft now allows for full cross platform play between Xbox Live and other networks, and that Sony has been known to be obstructing cross platform online play, I believe we can be safely confident that Sony is the one that is currently impeding cross platform play for this game, too. It’s a shame.

Tekken 7 launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on June 2.
