Look, you either were impressed with the map size in The Division beta, especially considering how constrained the playable areas are in Bungie’s Destiny, or you were actually surprised at just how big it all was- especially considering how shared world areas don’t exactly tend to have big open worlds.
In both cases, you probably did not know that the beta did not even remotely represent the full map size- as a matter of fact, the beta map is just a little over a fifth of the full map in the final release. Ubisoft recently released an interactive map of the full game- and as is the case with just about anything these days, some fans decided to analyze the crap out of it. Specifically, Reddit user MickGasm overlaid the beta map on top of the full game map and calculated that the beta only had 22% of the final map’s area playable- meaning the final map is actually five times as large.
Concurrently, Reddit blidside calculated the size of the Dark Zone using a similar technique too- his results? Dark Zones account for almost 18% of the map, which means a fifth of the map is just Dark Zones. In other words, all that playable area from the beta is roughly as big as just the Dark Zones in the final game!
The Division is due out in March on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
