Bethesda Game Studios has announced that the critically acclaimed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has sold more than 20 million copies since releasing in November 2011.
Set in the wintry wonderlands of Skyrim, the game had players assuming the role of the Dragonborn – a powerful warrior who was destined to defeat the sinister dragon and “World Eater” Alduin. The game has been lauded for its sheer attention to detail, incredible scale and addictive gameplay mechanics – and that’s without mentioning its mod support.
Though Bethesda indicated that more than 20 million copies had been sold, it didn’t specify whether these were sell through or simply shipped copies. Given that Skyrim sold 3.5 million copies within 48 hours of launch, we’ll go with the former.
Currently, ZeniMax Online Studios is busy developing The Elder Scrolls Online for PS4, Xbox One and PC, with a leaked casting call indicating that Bethesda was developing Fallout 4, to be set in Boston.
