The Last of Us Part 2 Reveal Trailer Isn’t Actually In The Game

Which makes sense, of course, announcement trailers rarely are.

Remember the great The Last of Us Part 2 reveal trailer from 2016’s PlayStation Experience? As it turns out, that’s all it was- a trailer. It’s not actually in the game as is (though it is at the very least a conceptual representation of things that happen in the game, I am sure).

Speaking with Ted Price of Insomniac, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann revealed that the original trailer isn’t actually in game; on the other hand, the longer video that we saw at Paris Games Week in 2017 is a cutscene from in the game.

“The first trailer we showed kind of exists purely as an announcement. It’s not a scene that takes place in the game,” he said, before talking about the second trailer and confirming it as a cutscene in the game.

That makes sense, and is also consistent with Naughty Dog’s general modus operandi- for instance, the Uncharted 4 reveal trailer, while conceptually representative of a sequence in the game, isn’t actually in it as is, to the best of my memory. More than anything, that reveal trailer shows us where the story of the game plans to go- and I, personally, am very excited to see that.

The Last of Us Part 2 will launch exclusively on the PS4.
