The Witness is 2.7 GB in Size, Targeting 1080p Resolution and 60 FPS on PS4

Creator Jonathan Blow says the game is inching closer to the "when it's done" stage.

Jonathan Blow’s The Witness hasn’t been in the spotlight much since its initial debut at E3 2013 but now the creator himself has revealed a progress report for the game on the PlayStation Blog and indicated that it’s inching further to completion.

Blow revealed that the game has been in development for five years now and that while there’s still no official release date beyond “when it’s done”, he admits that that time is nearing closer. The main gameplay which composes a standard walkthrough of The Witness from start to finish is done but Blow and his team are still working out the extras players will come across. And rest assured, there are a lot of extras.

The Witness on PS4 is currently planned to run at 60 frames per second and 1080p resolution. Blow confirmed that many areas in the game met this requirement, but that there will still some places left to implement the same. The game will also have no loading screens as the development team wants you to walk around and explore things as smoothly as possible.

Finally, Blow revealed the file sizes of various aspects for the game. He also made sure to confirm that these are the sizes of files in the final release to be shipped, not for the source files.

  • Texture Maps: 1196 files, 446MB
  • Meshes: 4588 files, 507MB
  • Sounds: 2435 files, 1.2GB
  • Animations: 197 files, 0.6MB
  • Entities: 1 file, 4.3MB
  • Lightmaps (auto-generated): 17916 files, 453MB

Total (including other files not listed here): 39387 files, 2.7GB

So there you have it. The Witness is also slated to be releasing for iOS and PC along with PS4. There should be more news about it at E3 2014, including further updates on the above gameplay aspects. Stay tuned for more details and let us know in the comments about what you think of The Witness thus far.
