Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 – Impressions

Some events occur every year no matter what. A few examples include New Year’s Day, Earth making its way around the sun, and Electronic Arts releasing a new version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour. 2009 is no exception to these rules, and with this year comes another rendition of EA’s perennial cash cow. As this will be the tenth game in the series, EA has decided to drop the year from the name and will dub this year’s version Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10.

With the game’s June 8th release only a couple weeks away, EA has made a demo available on both the Playstation Network and Xbox Live. If you’re as excited as we are at Gaming Bolt for the game’s official release, you’ll want to read on to see what we think about the demo.

The demo showcases the Bethpage Black and Turnberry golf courses and allows you to play a few holes on these courses, take part in an event in the game’s Tournament Challenge Mode, as well as giving you a chance to go head to head with Tiger Woods in a shot-for-shot mode.

Game play and controls are what we have come to expect from the title. If you’ve played Tiger Woods before, you know what you’ll get. The courses themselves look as beautiful as ever and continue to approach photorealism. The character models don’t seem to have changed much. Having said that, they are still some of the most realistic character models offered in a sports game. The graphics are coming together quite nicely, but there is one aspect that still needs to be addressed. Fans lining each course all perform one of two animations. The game boasts that more fans will crowd the courses, but when all the fans look and move the exact same, then it really detracts from the game’s realistic look.

That aside, Tiger Woods PGA 10 looks to be yet another solid entry into the now decade old franchise. New online features such as daily, weekly, and “play the pros” tournament modes look to bolster an already top of the line golf title. Check back after June 8th to see how the full game pans out.
