TitanFall Director: Inventing New IP for New Hardware Places Heavier Demands

Steve Fukuda talks about "making a bigger splash" with new IP, even if it's more challenging.

Speaking to NowGamer, TitanFall game director Steve Fukuda recently discussed Respawn Entertainment’s desire to work on a brand new IP this generation, and also talked about how despite the hurdles, there are better chances in “making a bigger splash”.

“I think it depends on each developer’s circumstances but I think it is more difficult, at least technically.

“As you know, developers faced with the start of a generation invariably have to wrestle with the hardware in its formative stages; there are more unknowns than if you are working with established hardware. Inventing a new IP and developing for new hardware at the same time places heavier demands on technical resources.

“There may be a better chance of ‘making a bigger splash’ at the start of a generation, but ultimately I think you have to make a great game first, and that inherently has a greater effect than timing.”

TitanFall is currently scheduled to release in 2014 for the Xbox 360, PC and Xbox One.
