Titanfall: Respawn Finds Press Bribery Remarks “The Height of Insulting”

Producer Drew McCoy hits out at accusations of Respawn buying positive press for Titanfall.

It just so happens with every big release, especially for an Xbox-exclusive one like Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall, that accusations of positive press having been purchased will be thrown around. However, producer Drew McCoy finds such claims to be insulting, especially considering the amount of effort the developer has put in to produce the game.

“Anyone who thinks we weren’t living in the shadow of decade+ old established franchises at our reveal at E3 are as crazy as their conspiracy theories of anyone getting paid off.

“We’ve had to fight tooth and nail to have a game that anyone would even know existed, let alone be excited for and want to create coverage of. I get it that its not for everyone, but to say we’re paying anyone off is downright insanity. Not to mention the height of insulting.”

For the record, I loved it and I’m neither the biggest multiplayer fan nor the greatest team player, having shunned Call of Duty, Battlefield, Counter-Strike and what-have-you for more than a decade (it helps that Titanfall is actually lots of fun). But such accusations happen, especially when some one is accused of being a fanboy for the opposing team when an exclusive doesn’t quite satisfy them.

What are your thoughts on all of this? Let us know in the comments. Titanfall releases for Xbox One and PC on March 11th in North America and March 14th in Europe. The Xbox 360 version drops on March 25th/28th.
