Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege: New Gameplay Details Revealed

Start hedging bets everyone, how long till this game creates disappointment and heartbreak?

Now that Assassin’s Creed Unity is out, and Far Cry 4 is just a few days from release, the focus of all of Ubisoft’s marketing power will shift from those two games to their next two mega hits lined up- The Division and Rainbow Six: Siege, both due out for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC some time next year.

Of these, we know not much about Siege- it got a reveal at E3 earlier this year, but after that, we haven’t exactly heard more from Ubisoft regarding the title. Well, Ubisoft finally published a new blog post detailing some of the gameplay mechanics that they showed off during the game’s E3 debut. Notably, they focus on the drone that they showcased.

“Our drone is designed around a real life tool in active use by many tactical teams worldwide,” the blog post reads. “We saw interesting reports of CTUs [counter-terrorist units] using these recon drones to scout areas during bomb defusal situations and made it part of our original prototype. Fans of the series probably remember the snake cam, and this is essentially our version.

“In addition, pretty much all CTUs come into a situation prepared with an aerial view of the operation zone, whether via helicopter or flying drone. Attackers in Siege will have some eyes in the air with the Eagle Scan, a flying drone that slowly circles around the defender’s building. All attackers have access to the drone’s camera and it gives a great view of the situation outside, allowing players to spot any defenders who might be running around or flanking outside. The design is very preliminary and we have some interesting iterations planned to make it even more useful to attackers.”

That’s not all- they go in depth about the other gameplay mechanics that they showed off as well. It’s a very long blog post, and I encourage you to read it, even if, after the double disappointment whammy of Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed Unity this year, I think I am done with Ubisoft for a while now.
