In the midst of all the hype for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Ubisoft announced as part of its financial results that Tom Clancy’s The Division would be releasing in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2016. Originally, The Division was slated to release in Autumn, having been delayed by more than a year at E3 2014, and this announcement suggests that it could now release in January to March 2016.
It’s rather interesting considering how The Division went from being developed by Massive Entertainment to a total of four studios now working on the game, including Ubisoft Annency. Earlier, when the game was still pegged to release in Autumn 2014, an anonymous developer called the release date “laughable”.
At this point, The Division is seemingly becoming bigger than even Ubisoft had planned. Will it suffer from many of the development troubles that such large scale projects like Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed: Unity incurred, especially since it’s an MMO?
