Tom Clancy’s The Division Won’t Have Microtransactions “Period”

"No pay to win or vanity items" according to Ubisoft Massive.

A story emerged the other day about Tom Clancy’s The Division featuring possible micro-transactions and given the current state of gaming, letalone MMORPGs, it didn’t seem far-fetched at all. Then again, even if some developers have handled the practice well without forcing it on players, Ubisoft Massive creative director Magnus Jansen has clarified to VG247 that The Division won’t have micro-transactions. And he means absolutely none.

“It’s one of the things that we looked at because if people like the game and want to purchase extra things I don’t mind that. But microtransactions, as it’s defined, we do not have them. You cannot spend a little bit of money and fast-track to get better gear or pay to win or vanity items. We do not have that. The short answer is no, we don’t have microtransactions, period.

“We will have DLC. We don’t have it yet because we’re just barely finishing the game. I just don’t want anyone to say that when we announce the DLC, ‘you said [no microtransactions]’.”

The Division is out on March 8th with a closed beta beginning on January 28th for Xbox One and January 29th for PS4 and PC.
