While it was earlier revealed that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, the next gen port of the 2013 action adventure title that releases for PS4 and Xbox One, would run at 30 FPS and 1080p resolution, it now seems both versions will differ in frame rate. In GamesRadar livestream, executive producer Scott Amos stated that the PS4 version would be running at 60 FPS.
When asked if the game was locked at 30 FPS on both consoles, Amos stated that, “Uh, no, I mean, you’re seeing it right here. So, there definitely, you know, one of the things that people had asked, they had heard various quotes, actually heard some misquotes, our goal from the beginning was always to be 1080p gameplay at 30 frames per second minimum.
“Some people have taken that and misconstrued like, ‘Oh, it’s locked to 30!’ Actually, no, it’s literally, the game was always from the beginning, our absolute requirement was gameplay at 1080p and minimum 30 frames per second. And anything past that was gravy. That’s the kind of game we are, the kind of world we are, and as you’re sitting here looking at it, like we said on the PS4, this is running at 60.”
And no, the the Xbox One version wasn’t explicitly mentioned as being at 30 FPS. However, according to NeoGAF admin EatChildren, “verified sources” claim that it is running at 30 FPS with a native 1080p resolution.
“For most of your play, and during action scenes, the Xbox One build will sit on around 30 fps. On the other hand, the PlayStation 4 build will attempt to hit 60 fps as often as possible, and does a pretty good job of doing so, but does have slight dips under 60 fps during certain scenarios,” he added.
