Tomb Raider Reboot is 12-15 hour long, Lara can’t swim

Modern game design.

Tomb Raider Reboot which is set to release next year is already looking stunning. However, we have some new information on the game courtesy of Crystal Dynamics’ Karl Stewart who revealed some things on Twitter that can be perceived negatively.

The old school Lara Croft games were brutally hard but they also offered players a lot of flexibility in gameplay. For example, she could swim, there was no health regeneration and last but not last, the game actually had a lot of depth.

Now for this game we do not know how much depth it has, but Lara Croft cannot swim and she has also gained health regeneration. Stewart says it was necessary because Croft isn’t the experienced woman anymore, this is an origin story so those were necessary.

I’d chalk it more to modern game design sensibilities.

He said that the “game will last 12-15 hours depending on your playstyle” and the game will feature a lot of twists, apparently the team at Crystal Dynamics love twists. He revealed all this information in a series of tweets, which you can check out here, here and here.
