Japan faced a major natural disaster a few days ago when a earthquake measuring 8.9 on the ricter scale shook the nation, followed immediately by a disastrous tsunami.

The gaming industry also suffered along with the people of Japan, with gaming giant, Sony having to close multiple factories and suffering huge losses.

Reports suggests that as many as 12,000 PS3s and 5,600 Xbox 360 consoles were swept away by the tsunami.

Sony also had to shut down six factories in Fukushima and Miyazaki after the tremore hit Japan. These factories prodcued Blu-ray discs and other products, including PS3s. Sony is still accessing the damage done to these factories.

On a brighter side, Sony had pledged to donate 300 million yen for relief and aid to victims of the earthquake. They’ll also be donating 30,000 units of radio products to the quake victims.

We hope that Japan emerges from this disaster, quickly and completely. Our thoughts go out to all those affected.
