Ubisoft Commissioned Study Finds PS4 Leading Over Xbox One in Purchase Consideration

The publisher also apparently ranks first with "most innovative games for next-gen consoles".

A study commissioned by Ubisoft global market research firm IPSOS revealed some interesting results. Across the US, UK and France with more than 1000 respondents each, it was revealed that purchase consideration for the PS4 was slightly higher than for the Xbox One.

When asked if respondents would purchase either an Xbox One or a PS4 in the 12 months after each console’s respective launch, 9 percent said they’d buy a PS4 this year while 13 percent planned for a purchase next year. This is compared to 8 percent purchasing an Xbox One this year and 10 percent hopping aboard next year.

The study also found that among male gamers aged 18 to 35, Ubisoft ranked first as having the “most innovative games for next-generation consoles”, with 21 percent of the votes. EA came in second followed by Activision. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was also named as second ranked in a list of most “excited about playing” games, beating out Battlefield 4 but losing to Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Considering Ubisoft’s line-up, which includes Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, The Crew and Watch Dogs, we’d say it’s fairly accurate. Will it be able to maintain that lead, especially against competition like Destiny and Titanfall? We’ll find out in the coming year.
