The Rainbow Six series is one of those franchises that, in spite of having a vocal and dedicated fanbase, hasn’t exactly been a big seller in the past. Ubisoft themselves pointed out recently that past titles have sold in the vicinity of 3 million units worldwide. Despite that, Ubisoft seems to have great hopes for the upcoming Siege- asked about how they expect the game to do in their recent financial call meeting, Ubisoft stated that they wish for the game to do better than Far Cry 4, which has sold 7 million units worldwide. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot made it clear the company has high hopes for the game. “Over its lifetime, we believe Rainbow Six: Siege has the potential to become the highest-selling shooter in Ubisoft’s history,” he stated.
If Siege did this, it would be the most successful shooter Ubisoft has ever put out. That is already very impressive, but Ubisoft is at least reasonable about the demands being placed on the new installment in a traditionally mid tier franchise. Guillemot emphasized that he expects these to be lifetime sales for the game, as opposed to something that is achieved at or around launch. “It’s very important to consider that this game will continue to live for a long time as we will introduce new content on a regular basis because it will be a multiplayer game,” he said.
Rainbow Six: Siege is expected to launch some time before March 31, 2016. Stay tuned to GamingBolt.
